Whether Lane chooses us, we will see, but it’ll come out eventually if we land him, that Saban had a part in us getting him. Lane wants a title, and he’s tried his best at Ole Miss, and as good as they've been this year, it's not going to happen, but I’m sure Saban told him that if he wants to build a legacy, you can easily do it at LSU.

The pieces line up too well. Bookmark it. No, I don't have sauces. This is my theory, which has zero weight and zero evidence.

Write it in your journal. At least someone will care about it there.

This has absolutely crossed my mind as well.

Saban has said his biggest regret is leaving LSU. He would probably tell Lane not to leave where he is.

Well yeah, most of Verge's conversations with Saban weren't about Saban himself coaching here...

Then why did Saban tell Lane it would be better for him to stay put at Ole Miss? doesn’t sound like he’s trying to help LSU very much to me.

Just playing devil’s advocate. Saban still technically gets paid to consult for Alabama. He still works there. Why would he push LSU? What would be his motivation?

Kiffn and Orgeron spent 9 years on the same staff, going back to 2001 at USC. He brought Orgeron with him to Tennessee and USC

The former LSU coach with the biggest impact on how Kiffin perceives this job is O, not Saban

This is hilarious. Saban just did a favor for some old LSU friends by testing the waters to see if the master troll himself, Kiffin, might play games with LSU. Nothing more.

Us talking through Sexton hurt us before and we don't want that again.

Saban isn't taking even 0.350 seconds of his time trying to get us a new HC unless he gets paid to do it.

So Nick wipes Lane's arse and then flushes the toilet?

I agree with your thought process. I’m hoping LSU doesn’t spend $20-25 million a year on Saban to right the ship and name his successor. Let Nick help persuade Kiffin and if you have to, pay Kiffin what you think he’s worth to come stabilize the program and elevate it quickly to a playoff team every year.

Why would he? Saban's statement that his biggest regret was leaving LSU had more to do with leaving college for the pros, than his love for LSU. That was a long time ago and his allegiance is all Bama.

He very well could be telling Lane, Louisiana politics are screwed up as ever, the only way LSU could sustain $18 mil a year or more in NIL is you would have to pony up 7 figures of your own cash, so get your butt to Gainesville (or stay in Oxford where life is good).
