Found this in my book collection, I forgot I had it. My current reading is tied up in stuff for physics and stuff I need to know for starting a certain kind of business.

For those that have read it, what did you think?

It's good, but if you do some digging you'll find it does have it's critics since Shirer was an American journalist and not a "historian".

I'd recommend reading it but then also reading Richard Evan's "The Third Reich trilogy" to get the best of both.

I’ve never read shirer. I think the one massive book seems too daunting .

But Evans trilogy is my favorite Nazi related books I’ve ever read. It contains so much stuff the other books I’ve read never really touch on .

I’ve read so many Holocaust/nazi type books it’s my favorite section of history. I could probably teach a class on it. And Evans trilogy would be one of my lecture materials for it.

Yes, I have read it.

It is the best book I have read on that subject matter.

Read it. Incredible on the detail of some of the conversaitons around the high level decisions on the nazi side. Honestly a life changing book for me in terms of my knowledge of history.

Very good, and I would also check out Berlin Diary by Shirer.

I’m reading it right now. It’s a really engrossing read, probably the easiest 1000 pages you’ll ever have.

Have you tried Hitler’s War by David Irving?
