How many “Data leaks“ have you been exposed to?

Created an account just yesterday on the Internet to pay for something. When I logged in again today, I’m informed of a data leak involving my password.
This seems to be the norm rather than the exception these days. Happens with almost every single account I create- auto and homeowners insurance, mortgage, social media accounts, accounts at Dr’s offices, school accounts for my kids. Just about anything you have to log into nowadays. I don’t think it’s ever happened here. But in truth, I don’t think I’ve ever logged off and had to log back on.
I even had a data link when signing up with the credit unions for alerts.
I don’t think I’ve ever changed a password because of this. It’s fruitless.
Rant over

I played A Link to the Past a couple years ago. Does that count?

Sometimes it's only funny in your head

From checking haveibeenpwed.com, my two email addresses have been in 18 total data breaches.
From sites such as Canva, Twitter, and even Neiman Marcus. The most surprising was Hot Topic, because I don't recall ever shopping there.

Living with someone who works in IT security, it happens quite a bit.

Saw this and the image just now on the toilet. I chuckled so hard that I did not have to strain anymore. Well done my friend.

I just wanna know what the grand plan is for these people getting all this information from the data leaks. Does anything consequential ever happen from them?

Daily. But from personal experience it only takes one real one to ruin your day. We have spent many hours cleaning things up from previous identity theft.

Enough that I honestly don’t pay attention to it anymore.

I worked for the government. All of them.

Way too many. I don't even care anymore.

its saying your password was found in a leak, not necessarily that this new site was hit..Its also unfathomable that a site would tell you immediately, theres a standard of one day less than six months with most companies

Seems like the sheer glut of "data" makes the entire concept all but useless at this point.

As I see it, the only real risk is with your on-line banking accounts…and I just disable all of that shite. Credit cards are hit most often, but you aren’t responsible fro debt resulting from fraud on those.

If you've ever done anything online your data has almost assuredly been breached. Heck, even if you somehow have never done anything online, and just gave your information to an entity that does their on web-connected devices you've probably been in a breach. Government, rewards programs, sales accounts, etc.
