i've got a room devoted to being a home gym. it's about 12x16ft. i've put down rubber tiles from costco

looking for a bench as well as a rack
this is going to be used by me and my 16 yo son.

i've started looking at smith machines, functional trainers, etc

budget around $5K or less for the rack and bench

giant, force, get rx'd, rogue, rep are brands I’ve seen but know nothing about any of them

i need to leave some space for a treadmill

thanks for the help!

go rep pr-500 to start with. a nice rep adjustable bench. Get a bar from texas power bar or rogue or even rep

then get weights, set of gym rings.

and then possible adjustable dumbbells. then specialty bars

from there, cables like the ares from rep are good things to go with or even better do something like the voltra from beyond power

@garagegymreviews on YouTube has a ton of info on pretty much anything available for a home gym

His Twitter handle is @homegymcoop and he’s pretty responsive on that app

Sure others in here will have good recs, but if you want to go down rabbit hole on it look up above…

I have the rep pr-500 and their adjustable bench and it's great. I bought a pretty cheap pulley system for cables that uses your plates for weight and it works fine.

If I had it to do over, I might build around something like a BodyCraft RFT (it's about $4k). You add a bench and olympic set and there is almost nothing you can't do.

They have dip handles you can buy, but you can do pullups, most cable exercises and it is self-spotting for squats and BP. You would just need a bench, barbell and bumpers. The old school F430 from them was a fantastic value for me for years. I moved it on to a child when I went digital.

When we built our office gym, we got some great deals on a rack, plates, and other equipment off of Facebook marketplace.

A lot of people get that "New Year, New Me" bug early in the year, but all the equipment they dropped serious coin on soon becomes high price coat racks.

Space is limited in our gym, so we got a collapsable Rogue rack. We also have two sets of Bowflex adjustable dumbells.

I got an email today about the giant vertex all in one (functional trainer + smith) on sale for $2799 (reg $3599) and comes with an adjustable bench.

Any thoughts on this brand? One review I read said that attachments are limited to giant brand but I’m not sure that’s a deal breaker

I'll give you this advice. Don't go cheap on a bench and don't go cheap on a bar. Buy quality and pay what it costs.

You can probably find someone selling plates and dumbells on FB marketplace and get a deal on them.

My garage gym is near capacity now. I have a rogue squat rack with the functional trainer, titan leg press/hack squat machine, powerblock dumbbells, seated calf raise machine, fringe sport belt squat and a sorinex leg extension/leg curl machine.

I ordered this for my son, hopefully it'll be here in time for Christmas.

Maybe that will help with some ideas.

Yea go cheap on the plates. Pretty much any will last forever as long as you don't throw them around. Get bumpers for DLs. You really just need 45 lbs bumpers and then the other weights won't be big enough to hit the ground
