Note to GOP re: negotiation of ACA subsidies

First, do not just say OK.
Yes, Dems will attempt to bludgeon you in 2026 over it, but you should have the Fetterman clip ready to go in response to any such effort.
Second, completely shutting them off - while I would love it - is politically dumb.
Many idiots will ignore Fetterman's honesty and lap up the pablum of "GOP is bad" that the Dems and legacy media will spew for the next year.
Third, offer compromise of step down of "temporary" subsidies (and that word ["temporary"] should be used at all times):
50% reduction for 2026
25% additional reduction for 2027
Eliminate "temporary" subsidy effective 2028
If Dems want to reduce those amounts and draw out the draw down, then get concessions on other parts of Ocare.
They will want all or nothing and it needs to be crystal clear that they are not negotiating in good faith. Independent voters care about that shite.

Why doesn't Trump just unveil his alternative healthcare plan after hiding it for 9 years?
A white paper will do.

Honestly, if we are going to continue funding shite all over the world, why not just go full blown socialism. You telling me it’s ok to go socialism for wars and foreign shite but Americans have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps? frick all of it.

You need a replacement. Stripping the subsidies will lead to revolt.

Without an affordable alternative, GOP will get their asses kicked over this.

Need to show and admit that ACA/ObamaCare was a bad piece of legislation. It does not work.
Redo it and fixed what you can. Be honest what a mess it is.

Why not get the Federal Government out of the insurance business? Why not eliminate all medical advertising of any type or kind? Why not end all lobbying of any elected politician by any medically related entity?
After doing so, simply provide Americans with the exact same plan these politicians are able to use and allow insurance companies to cross state lines!!

I am talking solely about the temporary Covid subsidies. The other ACA subsidies remain.
And, yes, I agree that Trump needs to present an alternative.

Agree. The only thing I can take of the current situation is that Republicans and Democrats like the ACA.
I felt when the ACA passed, it was just a doormat for single payer. It was meant to fail to usher in BigGov takeover.

It is time for DJT to show some leadership on the healthcare issue. There needs to be a plan for reforming the current mess.

Yes. Republicans can hold the subsidies over the Democrats heads and use this as a Republican election advantage.
Bring up a complete revamp of healthcare and force Democrats to either vote for this new policy or accept the high Obamacare premiums.
1. Bring back catastrophic policies outside of Obamacare.
2. Create a HSA contribution from the insurers for those that do not have claims that meet their deductible. Promote healthy living.
3. Provide the ability to pay care providers directly without going through insurance middle market process.

At the rate that Trump has been embracing wealth redistribution and socialism, I expect the Mango Mamdani to pitch us on single-payer health-care and UBI by Christmas.

I agree with most of that in principal. However I would revised the steps like this.
Step1: Make the democrats admit that Obamacare did not lower healthcare prices as advertised and is not working.
Step 2: Reduce temporary subsidies to 75% for 2026, 50% for 2027, 25% for 2028, and 0% for 2029 and onwards.
Step 3: Get serious about coming up with a replacement for Odumbasscare.

Absolutely this. I can't stand when Democrats say negotiate, when they mean ... our way or the highway.

Right now... my favorite Fetterman image...

The plan we have now has failed … but it's not the Republican's plan, it's the Dem's plan.
Caveat: The Repubs should put forth a plan.

Because SFP is a Dem masquerading as a conservative so he expects a government plan. I don’t know why that is hard for many of you to grasp

Tell that to the millions would take advantage of the subsidies and it should also be known that those subsidies get fully reimbursed by FedGov directly back to the insurers.

There is no realistic alternative.
You either raises premium costs on those paying for health insurance so that they can hand out free health care to the poor population or you leave things as is.
We’re already partly doing that with the “affordable” care act.

Brilliant plan to had the Dems a winning talking point in 2028
Why you would hand them their biggest political win in an election year is beyond me.
If anything, cancel them all now as give folks time to get over it.
