Because dog food manufacturers stopped putting as much bone meal in the mix. Organic poop decays. Bone meal remains.

We quit using ground bones in dog food. Pet food used to be bone meal and as the poop disintegrated the bone meal was left behind.
We use other fillers and chemicals now.

They removed the bonemeal from the kibble.
They should really put it back in since dog shite back in the day really wasn't an issue since it would just crumble after a week or so but now it is greasy as frick and stays for months.

What I was around 9-10 I had a Bassett hound named Max.
One day we all left the house and Max found the Hersheys kisses.
