GOP lawmakers secured a provision in the shutdown deal taking aim at the Biden FBI’s “Arctic Frost” surveillance campaign into a vast swath of Republicans and conservative entities.

The measure, tucked inside a Senate legislative branch appropriation bill that passed Monday night, allows senators whose phone records were seized without their knowledge during former special counsel Jack Smith‘s probe to sue the government — and be awarded at least $500,000 for every violation. Several Republican senators whose telephone metadata were obtained by the FBI under former President Joe Biden’s administration told the Daily Caller News Foundation the provision’s inclusion into the shutdown deal was a welcome move.

“It’s designed to put real teeth into federal law that prohibits the executive branch from surveilling the Senate,” Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz told the DCNF in a brief interview on Monday. “Arctic Frost was a grotesque abuse of power. It was Joe Biden’s Watergate.”

Rules for thee

Normal everyday American citizens are not able to sue the federal government for similar law enforcement intrusions

I’m against it. It should be able to work both ways.

You can’t claim immunity for misdeeds yet get the privilege of suing?

No thanks but doesn’t matter what we think

So tax payers pay money for what one crook does to another crook. Seems reasonable

I would have been much happier with a provision that called for the mandatory death penalty of those who carried out Arctic Frost

Wouldn’t it be funny is they sued Jack Smith and bankrupted his family and seized all their assets while Smith spent
the rest of his life in prison?

perhaps they could offer him a deal to drop the dime on the real conspirators in exchange for some more sympathetic sentence - up to total freedom and $$ reward for certain big fish that got caught via his information.

Sue the government?

frick that!

That’s just going to be taking even more money from taxpayers than they already fricking steal.

How about they sue fricking Jack Smith and the politicized and corrupt judges who allowed them to get away with this fricking shite. bankrupt those motherfrickers. Take away the immunity from the Democrats who actually violated the f*cking law.

No, it's only wrong when something is in some way attributed to Trump and MAGA.

That's not necessary for my comment. Hence the word choice "intrusions"

His more honest word choice would be "excuses"

SFP has already said it wasn’t lawfare, if anyone wondered if he ever wanted to flex the constitution and his libertarian principles for anything other than against MAGA.

So now "lawfare" includes all government-prosecution subpoenas?
