I didn't care one way or the other before today simply because of how miserable the season has been. Rattler is an average at best game manager. After so many games, that's a fair diagnosis. But Shough was a playmaker today. He didn't just take what the defense was giving, he pushed the issue and made things happen. And in a division game, on the road, against a pretty good team on a hot streak. It's his job for sure, and I hope he can improve every week.

The obvious difference is the ability/willingness to make plays downfield.

Rattler really struggled doing that. Shough does it with ease.

17 points is nothing to really brag about. But, you can see what an improved OL and a weapon or two might do for this offense. You can actually see an end of the tunnel.

The other real difference is that Shough has accomplished in 2 games what Rattler took 2 years to do.

We've seen one bad, one good game. Inconclusive right now.

If he can win 2 or 3 games the rest of the year with this squad then maybe we have something.

Remember, Rattler also won a game. Let's see what else Shoughs got

this is not about wins.

he has better pocket presence
better awareness
nicer touch and accuracy
and he can read a d/go through progressions

arm strength and release time are added bonuses if you have them.

Rattler can’t elevate the offense, Shough can. Look at how much more effective the running game is with him. The LBs and Safeties can’t just cheat up waiting for a dink and dunk attack.

You have a threat to stretch the field……and MAGICALLY the run game is more effective.

The receivers are now getting YAC because of more accurate passes. It’s not rocket science…..

All of those times that posters like BigBrod or the like…..would chastise posters (like me) who had the AUDACITY to suggest that Shough had more upside than Rattler……..THIS is what we were talking about.

They didn’t want to see it, for whatever their personal agendas were.

It took Rattler over 10 starts to get a win, and they never won BECAUSE of Rattler.

As I said, Rattler is not elevating an offense like Shough can. You are correct though…..he still has a lot to prove. Rattler never had a game like this though

Rattler did what he was told to do and would have definitely continued to improve. He’s a starting QB in my opinion.

Shough balled out today and showed great pocket presence and overall vision of the field. I’m not going to go overboard, but excited to see his next start.

It's a bit too soon to assume Shough will have the kind of impact today showed.

I will say that Rattler played better than I ever thought he would.

I didn't expect Shough to be able to do what he did today so soon. It shouldn't be ignored. Forget about wins and losses. If he can continue to make plays like he did today, I will be pretty optimistic about him.

He absolutely did, snd when I am saying what I said it’s not to bash Rattler (although I can see why it seems like that).. I believe that Rattler is a quality backup, which is VERY valuable. As a 5th round pick……that is a win as a career.

He really impressed me with the way he battled and the way he handled getting benched. He has remained a great teammate, which is (I’m sure) not easy.

My point was that the offense was SEVERELY limited with Rattler (as it is with most backup QBs)……which is what we kept trying to point out.

I have always said that even though I believe that Shough needs to be the starter…….he likely won’t be the franchise QB in the end (ofds are against it)……..but he definitely has the tools, and much more upside than Rattler

If you don't see that Shough is superior to Rattler in every way, you are not being honest with yourself. I loved Rattler's moxie and confidence, but he was never it.

I'm here to hear the apologies. Shough gets a win in his second start without several starters on the OLine and the Saints #2 receiver traded. Let's check on Rattler's record again.

You must be kidding me. Rattler was 1-13 or something like that, and he never played like Shough did yesterday.

Correct and what I have been saying about Ratt for awhile.

He is an ok game manager but he will not push the ball at all. He just refuses to do so, or can't. And you cannot win like that.

He's a career backup

Shough is always looking to get the ball downfield and has a very live arm. He may not end up being great but the upside to actually win games is much higher

I've been trying to figure this agenda out, because there are even certain media members that are like this with Shough.

They had this agenda going in against the pick and then decided to quadruple down that it was just a wasted pick and he would never be good, based on nothing. Some stupid clip of him at the combine throwing a dumb pass.

I didn't want the Saints to pick Shough. But as soon as they did, I was going to reserve judgment until he played.

Shough was impressive.
But we should not have unrealistic expectations going forward. He will encounter some bumps in the road as all quarterbacks do. Today was a treat, though…
