I don't know if he's doing a great job but if Brad Davis gets 5 years, Kyle should get a 2nd

Eh he’s been fine. I wouldn’t say great. Not good enough to the point that you force the next coach to keep him

He has been good not great. We are better against the run, but we get zero pressure with a 4 man rush. It is such a huge advantage when you can get pressure with 4 and not have to blitz every down to get pressure.

Better but we need to get a much better pass rush.

They play great against the run…that is coaching…the lack of pass rush from interior isn’t coaching but talent

I agree but isn't that failure on our DE's and their coaching. Huge disappointment based on their preseason hypy and nil money.
Williams inside with the injuries has done a great job for a first year coach imho. Bama couldn't run inside, I know that.

DT’s get little to no push from the middle against the pass. It is not a sack thing it is pushing the pocket back into the QB to make him uncomfortable or leave the pocket. Maybe a talent thing, but he is working with a bunch 4/5 stars

Wrong -our lbs fail to fill the proper gaps too often

I would give Williams an "Incomplete". He hasn't been at LSU long enough to really judge him fully. Plus, he didn't recruit any of the DT now playing at his position of responsibility. I am pretty pleased with the DT stopping RBs who carry the ball between the tackles. What I am not pleased with is the lack of "push up the middle". There are DTs in the SEC who can rush the passer but unfortunately, none of them play for LSU. Let's wait and see what LSU's DTs look like next season. Like I said..."incomplete" is my grade right now.

There’s definitely improvement from last year but I wouldn’t say great.

When I think about defensive players trying to contain a really good running QB like Marcel Reed, a 280-300+ lb D-lineman is not what comes to mind when trying to contain that.

Honestly that is partly on the defensive line but a lot on our linebackers and DBs. The angles our linebackers take on mobile QBs are absolutely atrocious at times.

When playing Marcel Reed or Pavia that’s the last thing you want to do. Keep their arse in the pocket. Interior defensive lineman need to stay in their lanes against a mobile QB. Pushing up field will get you gashed up the middle

Pushing up the middle certainly doesn't have to destroy the rushing lanes. FriscoTiger is correct. The very least the DT should do is to push the OG and C back into the QB's lap. Plus, penetration by any DL increases the chances of knocking down a pass at the LOS if they put their hands up when the pass is thrown. The reason LSU has been gashed by dual threat QBs is allowing the QB to stand back there too long and if no one is open on a route just pick anywhere he can to run. I want the QB to be uncomfortable without time to scan the field or pick a lane to run. LSU DTs have been BELOW AVERAGE in pass rushing compared to other teams in the SEC. That is obvious just watching the other teams play.
