Who could take over a swath of the world faster? ISIS vs Cartels

ISIS in its heyday or Mexican cartels?
Advantages of each:
ISIS had far more foot soldiers and a bigger pool to recruit from in the Muslim
World
Cartels are already like an army and are very regimented in their process. Not to mention they have US made munitions
Disadvantages of each:
ISIS bum rushed cities by sheee numbers. Even city police and military chose to flee instead of fight. Perhaps it was a foregone conclusion they would be overrun
Cartels don’t even control their whole country and they’ve been in the takeover game for decades

Depends on the cartel. Los Zetas cartel are former Mexican special forces trained by US CIA and mossad.

Depends on the circumstances. Either one going up against a modern professional military would get destroyed. And if they were trying to take over large portions of the world, they would definitely encounter such a force, just like ISIS did in real life.

True statement and probably should’ve added in the geography choices in the OP. Isis obviously took over weak countries or countries in disarray so it was far easier to take over more land in short order. Minimal pushback, a petrified populace are ripe for a takeover.
