Had SO many of these tapes back in the 70s. Sucked that they didn't have rewind or fast forward in care tape decks

my recollection is all you could do was skip forward by track

The way they split songs from track to track was annoying. I still have my ZZ Top Fandango tape.

My parents had a Pioneer head unit in the 1976 Honda Civic wagon they drove and I remember being able to skip ahead to the next track with that one.

My Dad had an Olds Toronado with 8 track. I put my Uriah Heep tape in there and it ate the tape and screwed up the player. Talk about a pissed man.

My grandpa had one in his '66 Ford Galaxie 500. The first factory-installed 8-track in history. Came with two tapes from the factory: Henry Mancini and Chet Atkins.

What a great car. Was it an XL?

Not too shabby!

I just picked a deck up. Vintage Panasonic. Works great.

I had The Wall on 8-track. Would just play on a loop when I went to bed.
Probably explains a lot about my state of mind now.

I think the XL was the 427. No, his car had the 352, or was it 351?

You could get the XL with the 390 or 427, some even had the 428. The basic Galaxies usually had a 289 or 352, sometimes a 390.
Any Galaxy was a great car though. My favorite. I really want a nice one.

The Clash - London Calling
Cheap Truck at Budokan
Pat Benatar (debut album)
The Cars (debut album)
The Cars- Candy O
Neil Young - Decade
Blondie- Eat to the Beat
Guess Who- Greatest Hits

I had a pretty big 8 track collection, pretty varied too I guess.
You could only keep so many in your car, you had to rotate stuff in and out of your case.
I bet some people that looked in my tape case said "WTF" to themselves.
Boston
Grand Funk
Bad Company
Merle Haggard
Flatts and Scruggs
Johnny Horton
Hank Williams
Rufus
Commodores
ZZ Top
Ohio Players
Beach Boys.....

Yeah, I think I had a case that held twelve 8-tracks, so there was some shuffling.

every childhood should include the grease soundtrack on 8-track

obligatory “did you or one of your friends have one of these”:

When I went to the store I was short on money. I’m the only person I know who actually had a 4 track in their car… lol.
It worked /sounded fine. But it was mildly embarrassing.

I had one that you could fast forward

I remember home stereo 8 track players having fast forward. I don't remember anyone having it on a car tape deck. But, I hung out with poor people.
