Anyone have any experience with Anschutz model 1712, 22 lr?
I was gifted one and put hands on it today. Looking forward to shooting it.
I need to locate another mag, as it came with a single 5 round. Any recommendations here would be appreciated.
And Ammo, that's not $.45-.50/rd? Not necessarily looking to shoot long range. Though, I would like to stretch it at some point just for fun.

Try midway USA or brownells for a magazine they have almost everything.
I used to shoot Eley match in my bull barrel10-22 and could make 5 touch at 50yd.

my dad has a 54 sporter which the 17 series is based. Your gun has legendary build quality and accuracy. It’s one of the finest .22 bolt guns made. Shoot it and enjoy. Match ammo will get you the very best results.
For mags look at Midwest GW

That's what I hear. Can't wait to shoot it. Trigger seems excellent. Topped with a Razor 1.5-8x32. Will soon be headed to the squirrel woods. Now I need can for it.

It’s only worth more than my “nicer” deer rifle without a scope
They have awesome reputations. Jealous.

Man, I'm jealous. I'd like to meet whoever gifted you that gun since I don't ANY friends that generous.
As far as ammo, here are my suggestions w/ non-target ammo.
CCI "Standard" velocity (1070 fps) is consistently the most accurate non-match (i.e. affordable) ammo I've shot in my 22 LR's. It has a round nose so may not be good hunting ammo w/ non-head shots.
CCI sub sonic HP is really accurate. There's not many types of HP subsonic 22 LR ammo available.
Aguila sub sonic HP is also really accurate, although it sprays the rounds in my Ruger 22/45 handgun. Unfortunately, I've not seen it in stock in a couple years so I've had to substitute the CCI variety.
CCI SGB (small game bullet) is the most accurate high velocity round I've shot in my 22 LR's. Like the Aguila, I've not seen it in stock in a couple years.
I don't really have a favorite high velocity round otherwise. I mainly shoot subsonic. Having said that, the Aguila High Velocity HP shot well in many of my 22 LR's. I even did a deep dive w/ many of the hyper velocity rounds like the Stinger. Basically, they all shot like crap. In my guns, staringt at barely subsonic, generally as the velocity went up, accuracy went down.
Keep us updated on your gun. And post some pics.

Nor do I. My dad gave it to me. A while back we were talking and I mentioned wanting to buy a threaded bolt 22lr. I was looking at something along the lines of a Ruger American or alike. A guy he knows was selling off a bunch of higher end guns, so he got this for me. Not sure if he paid $3 or $3,000. Told him I didn't want to know.
I'll put it to use, regardless of value. The wood is gorgeous, though, and that first tiny imperfection is going to sting.
And thanks for the ammo advice.
I hear Eley is top notch but some of that runs upwards of .50/rd. I'm a sub 10 cent ammo kind of guy...haha

Cool story. Sounds like you've got a good dad.
And I'm still waiting for the first pic! Can't wait to see the wood.

I’m an Eley guy as well

congrats on a fine shooting rifle. That rifle sells for $2500 NIB today. You owe it to the rifle and yourself to find the best shooting ammo. Call Champions Choice and buy 4-5 boxes of what they recommend in the $8.00 to $15.00 range. SK and Wolf make very good ammo that shoots well in my Sako Finnfire

Buddy of mine has the 54.
Wasn’t the 54 based on a Match action and the 17 series rifles were a level below the 54 ???
Both great rifles.

The 1700 series sporting rifles are built on the Anschutz Model 54 Match Action. Each 1700 series Sporter is engineered and built with the same attention to workmanship, accuracy, and quality as its Olympic target rifle brethren. The 54 action is CNC machined from a solid steel block.
The model 64 action is used in the 1400 and 1500 series rifles. The 54's usually had a better grade of wood, better trigger & bolt assembly, and high lustre metal finish making them 3x's the price. 64's definitely shoot tiny holes with the right ammo.
