Road Trip ~ Headed to Bama. Suggestions?

Headed to Tuscaloosa for the game this weekend. Route to T-town looks boring and looking for recommendations from experienced Tigers that have made the trip in the past. Any recommendations on things to do on the way up or when we arrive? Any suggestions on things to avoid?
I’m expecting a better effort and game plan post BK/Sloan. Plan on having fun and enjoying the trip. Hard to believe only 4 regular season games left.

It really isn't. Just a very simple setup for people who like ribs. Worth a visit.

I haven't been there since 2015 but that year we took some advice and parked west of campus, somewhere down University Blvd around the Children's Museum. It was an easy 20 min or so walk down towards the bars that are also a bit west of campus. Leaving town postgame was very easy.
In the past we parked east of the stadium in the middle of campus. The traffic getting back to McFarland Blvd from University was absolutely horrific.

Don’t miss a chance to stop at the Alabama Welcome Center on I-59 just past the Mississippi border. Clean restrooms and nice folks. No better place upon which to take a relaxing dump. You’re welcome.

You can park and tailgate at Central HS right off campus. They charge 20 bucks and it goes towards their athletic booster club. Good place to set up, easy walk to the stadium and easy to get out after the game
They also have RV parking if needed

The HOF on campus is very nice time.

Went to bama game 2 years ago thinking they'd have the same cultural atmosphere as we have. Nope. Massively overrated. Games at Bama is like attending an NFL game, as everyone is there just for the in game experience.

My suggestion would be to turn around. Avoiding Tuscaloosa is always a safe move.

Went in 2011. Stayed at a boutique hotel in Birmingham but I hear it’s bad there now. Tuscaloosa is a typical football town. They ran out of food the next day lol. Stadium is nice. Geaux Tigers.

Try to resist the peer pressure to engage in relations with your direct blood relatives.

For what its worth, we always have stayed in Meridian, MS. Only an hour to tuscaloser for the game, and an hour back. Just my $0.02...

I have a suggestion about the "road trip" itself. On the North 59/ East 20 portion of the interstate between Exit 23 (Gainesville-Epes) and Exit 32 (Boligee) they are doing road work where they have a bridge down to one lane (this was as recent as the Sunday after A&M.) It is slow and it's a pain.
MIGHT consider (if it is day time when you travel) taking the Gainesville Exit 23 and turn right to US 11 which is about a mile away. Turn left /north on US 11 and proceed 8-9 miles . Look for Green County 20 in 'Boligee' just a map dot and turn left/NW for 59-20 (there is a sign there directing you.)
Is it worth saving 10 minutes? Up to you. Just keep in mind if it's dark when you are there US 11 is two lanes and not very well lit.

Noise cancelling ear phones… You will get tired of hearing Roll Tide! Everytime they do something.

On the way, we have started stopping at Wilson's Commissary for a meal in Laurel, MS. Prices are good and a nice place to relax and get a decent meal on the road.
In Tuscaloosa, we have enjoyed going to Roll Call for drinks. Its a roof top bar in the Alamite (nice place to stay too).
I am also a big SEC history fan, so eating breakfast at the Waysider is pretty cool. Bear Bryant had breakfast there every morning.
Black Warrior Brewing is cool place for meal...Ave. Pub is nice...Tuscaloosa has become a decent place to visit over the past 25 years. Take the recs from this board and then just explore. A lot of places to eat and drink at on University Blvd.

Just got back from Talladega a couple weeks ago - the construction as previously mentioned sucks and the lanes were freaking NARROW over the 6 bridges of construction.
Other than that, we take the I-12, I-59, I-20 route. It's an easy drive - if you're low on gas, stop in Meridian because there is nothing until Tuscaloosa.
One more thing - if you're a High Noon drinker, better stop before you leave Mississippi - ain't one to be found in Alabama along I-20. Walmart in Meridian sells them and it's pretty much the last stop before the state line.

Have not been since 2015, but I remember Innisfree had good wings. Black warrior brewing was a good spot too.
