I know I am late to the party, but the Aussie participants didn't understand, shelter, fire, and food for the most part. When it rains over 2/3 of the days you secure fire starting and burning materials.

I would think australians would be natural survivors considering everything in that country seems capable of killing you from funnel web spiders to blue ring octopuses

Spoilers ahead:
Is that the one where the one lady got a wallaby and they medically disqualified the other finalist because he was basically starving to death?
It also seemed like that lake was especially shitty to fish in. Some people really got screwed on their locations.

***Derail warning***
The latest season, putting the contestants in the Africa's Great Karoo Desert really changed things. Not only did it have the largest amount of tapouts in the shortest period (8 of ten lasted fewer than 10 days), but the winner from that season spent the least amount of time out there to win compared to all the other winners (no idea on the Aussie version).
Lack of potable water makes for a MUCH bigger issue than cold.

I am on season 8 right now on Tubi, I keep wanting a woman to win and they get so close.
Never cut towards yourself, wear gloves when cutting and fishing, and PLEASE stop butchering/cleaning stuff near your shelter. Don't take more than you can preserve and don't starve yourself out of the game when you have food.

You just finished the two best seasons imo. Season 6 with Jordan and 7 with Roland. Jordan, Roland, and the season 11 winner would still be out there competing if you let them.
Season 9 and 11 are pretty good too. Had to look up the winner of 8 and I feel like it's one of the weaker seasons. The newest one in Africa was by far the worst. I din't mind the terrain, i thought it was a nice break from the cold, but man there were some giant pussies on there

I don't know so much about pussies, but a true lack of potable water was a new angle. As long as you have shelter, a fire and plenty of wood, you can melt all the snow you want for all the water you want (although it takes a while as 10 gallons of snow roughly comes out to .1 gallon of water). People can survive long without food than they can water.
It was an interesting season but some of those areas really fricked the contestants with the amount of effort needed to get even the barest amount of food, water or both. I wouldn't mind seeing them do more warm-climate seasons, but I think they need just a smidge more natural resources to make the challenge last long enough to be a real competition.

This past season was one of the worst. Probably the least amount of survival techniques that I have seen. Maybe I have watch enough of these with my mother (she loves the show) that nothing is groundbreaking. For me, it is jumping the shark when you start having to use the sob stories, women empowerment, etc as filler

There is definitely a pattern of assigning women the better "random" spots to keep them around longer. Guys will be put in rocks while the ladies get fields of edible plants and easy fishing.

Agreed. I think Alone overshot the mark with this one as there were hardly any resources for the survivalists to use and there was also a stark lack of animals to hunt or to cause confrontation issues. A lot of it reminded me of Kubrick's setting the stage in 2001: A Space Odyssey for how empty the world was by showing those long, lingering shots of silent, open expanses with nothing going on than the occasional breeze.
The climate and terrain also greatly limited movement, so you didn't see contestants as likely to pick up and move to a more favorable location as they have been in previous seasons.

how long can you survive without food but with water
The average human can survive without food for up to 2-3 months if they have access to water. However, this time frame can vary depending on several factors, including:
Body fat: People with more body fat have a longer survival time because the body can use fat for energy.
Health: People in good health tend to survive longer than those with underlying health conditions.
Age: Younger people generally have a longer survival time than older people.
Climate: People in colder climates may have a shorter survival time due to increased energy expenditure.
Activity level: People who are more active will use up their energy stores faster.
Not sure I belive 2-3 months, but some on the show go two or more weeks living off of berries and roots.
