Woman dies two years after drinking margarita laced with industrial cleaner at restaurant

Holly Hill, 30, said her mouth was “on fire” and she immediately “started throwing up” after being served a margarita at a Mexican restaurant in Elgin on Valentine’s Day 2023, her mother, Kelly Hunter, told News 9.
“Her mouth was on fire, and she knew something wasn’t right,” Hunter said.
“She immediately jumped up and ran to the bathroom, started throwing up, started rinsing her mouth out with water,” she recalled.

Hill reached a confidential settlement with the restaurant after suing them over her ongoing health complications, News 9 reported.
Days before her death, Hill had another procedure, in which doctors found that the “hole in her esophagus wasn’t healed but it was a bit better and not as inflamed, so they were able to call in a pulmonologist to assist in stitching it up,” her mother wrote on social media.
“She will have to continue tube feeds for a while longer. She will have to come back in a few weeks for a swallow study with contrast to check on progress.”
“For the past two and a half years, while continuing to teach and care for her family, Holly faced a long and difficult medical journey,” Hill’s obituary read.
On Friday, the Elgin Police Department, working with the Comanche County District Attorney, said it had contacted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

I don't personally care if it was a whoopsie... The lady is dead and the last two years of her life were quite medically complicated and painful.
Any restaurant that could make that grievous a mistake needs to be permanently shutdown.

I can understand how it happened.
Even at one of the local spots we go, I've noticed by the bar area they have both their pre-made marg mix (makes sense why they are so cheap now) and their bleach cleaner are both in the same area.
I've wondered to myself sitting up there if they have ever made a similar mistake.
They are both in standard brown cardboard boxes but one says like menards margaritas mix and one says bleach.

Probably a chain of mistakes but I would guess at some point someone put some cleaner into a plastic bar pour bottle for convenience, left it sitting and a barback etc grabbed it and put it back where it "belonged" and the bottle was color coded for marg mix.

Her post in that picture says “took one swallow of what I thought was my margarita.” That’s an odd way to phrase it…did she accidentally drink something else? Or was her margarita spiked with some sort of cleaner on accident (or intentionally)? Because there’s a huge difference between those two things.

She lived with that, how sad. When I see stories like this I realize i don't have any problems.

Crazy if it was bleach. The smell is so potent and distinct. Would be hard to miss.

Reminds me of the British girl who took a shot of a drink that contained liquid nitrogen for smoke effect.
Kind of looks similar to the woman in the op.
