Not the typical time change complaint thread here. That topic has been beaten to death. But can we all agree that the time change should be moved up one week?

I mean how dumb is it to have the time change right after Halloween? Being 41, I grew up when trick or treating was still in the dark, and that's how it should be. Just had my first trick or treaters here (in Florida) and there's just something wrong about trick or treating in complete daylight.

Just my rant, but would it kill them to move up the time change one week so trick or treating is done at night time like it used to be? Seems so silly and something both sides should be able to get in board with.

Bro why are people trick or treating at 4pm?

That’s on them, by 6:30 it’ll be dark or dark adjacent and that’s when people should actually be out

It's still going to be light in an hour. So your point seems moot.

It gets worse every year here. I’m in a neighborhood that becomes gridlocked around 6:00 p.m. due to the massive amount of truck or treaters we get. Last year we counted almost 1,100. Seems like we get a wave now between 4:00-5:00 or people trying to beat the craziness later on.

But still, why not just move the time change up one week? It just seems wrong for a lot of the truck or treating to happen in broad daylight.

On standard time we would currently be near twilight. It would be dark in just over an hour. With daylight saving time, it won’t be dark for another 2 hours, until just after 6:30.

it used to be the last Sunday of october, not sure when it changed to the first sunday of november, Halloween did fall on a sunday in the 70's and 80's, and 90's, but we probably don't remember those times.

Think back to the movie ET, the Halloween scene, it was daylight.

edit, found it.

Go inside. Turn off light. Don’t answer door. Problem solved.

Just be thankful you aren't in Morocco

quote:

Since 2019, Morocco observes daylight saving time every month but Ramadan. During the holy month (the date of which is determined by the lunar calendar and thus moves annually with regard to the Gregorian calendar), the country's civil clocks observe Western European Time (UTC+00:00, which geographically overlaps most of the nation). At the close of that month, its clocks are turned forward to Western European Summer Time (UTC+01:00)

Seriously? How much do you spend on candy? And who’s doing the counting?

Never in your life has it been dark at 4 PM on October 31.

Too much honestly, lol. I decided to count last year. Honestly, it could’ve been more with some of the groups but I did a pretty good job remembering.

We’re one of those neighborhoods where we get a lot of people from other neighborhoods. People drive 15-20 miles to come to our neighborhood.

I agree, but by 5 it was twilight and by 5:30 it was completely dark. I absolutely remember leaving my house at 5:30 or even 5:20 and it being completely dark. It won’t be dark here tonight until just after 6:30. That’s too late on Halloween to get dark.

I don't think you understand how the sun works. But okay.

I understand how the sun works just fine. If we were on standard time it’s 3:30 and not 4:30 right now and it’s clearly dark by 5:30.

Sunset at my location is 6:40. If we were on standard time it would be 5:40, which is more what it should be.

Do you not agree that 5:40 is more appropriate for it to get dark on Halloween than 6:40?

Never have trick or treating here, I'm in a rural area. I feel sorry for the guy getting 1000 plus, might want to take up a collection for him

It used to be a week or two earlier iirc. Not sure why it changed.

I think it was 2006 or 2007 when it changed and they pushed the time change back from October into the first weekend in November. Again, I say just move it up one week to the weekend before Halloween. To me that should be relatively non controversial.

Correct. If we're going to keep shifting times, need to do it the Sunday before Halloween. Then trick or treaters can get going at dark around 6:15 and be done by 8: 15.
