Landry doesn't get to decide what an LSU coach gets paid.

Government doesn't have the ability to set a private company's payroll.

Unless Landry is trying to be a communist dictator.

You think LSU is a private company?

Landry controls the BoS. BoS is in charge of the selection committee. It certainly appears his fingerprints are going to be all over this.
Not that they will hire who he wants - I don't think he cares at all who the coach is - but he has made it clear in his comments that he does not want to see a giant guaranteed contract and expects the compensation to be tied to some form of metrics.

LSU only pays a nominal amount of a head football coach's pay. The vast majority of it comes from TAF and donors.

C'mon. Landry's noise has all kinds of diapers in a wad.

If a single booster paid BKs buyout, then we are actually better off than we were before. LSU dumped the bad contract with BK and now have the same amount of money to offer a new coach. So what is Landry crying about? What am i missing here?

What coach with options is going to take a non guaranteed contract when he knows the governor can fire him at will?

He only put restrictions on the buyout. Not incentive based pay. Win the natty get a big arse check. Make the playoffs get a big arse check. You want to get paid? Then win. It’s not that off

performance based contracts are obviously better for the university. But they will not attract a top tier coach to switch jobs. I think it will eventually get to that similar to NFL (since everything else is becoming like the NFL), but we arent there yet and a top level coach isnt going to be the first one to take that type of contract.

Personally sure they’re great.

With the plethora of jobs and the short supply of great options the coaches have the leverage. 3 out of the best 10 jobs in America are open in October.

Nobody is going to take a performance based offer from lsu if psu or UF are offering 12 a year guaranteed.

If you take Landry at face value, we can eliminate a large number of candidates.

We have to shift our focus to G5 and coordinators

LSU athletics is privately funded.

Then he'll have to be corrected.

Why should LSU have to hire a lesser coach just because Landry doesn't like the fact that private donors are willing to spend millions up front?

It sure sounds like Landry's supporters want government control over private donations.

More like G5 coordinators.

There are already a boatload of big P5 programs needing coaches.

We'll be at the bottom of the list with all the qualifiers Landry wants in that contract.

And Kiffin, and any other prominent coach.

Landry's speech could have been summed up as follows: we are going to hire Sumrall or Frank Wilson. Prepare yourselves and thank me for saving the taxpayers money, even though this won't be paid by taxpayers.

Or go to a different team.

The rest of the country, especially the southeast, is gonna cheer Landry on. Its a win-win for them. If it works out for whoever is dumb enough to sign other teams may try it. If it fails totally it'll ruin LSU and help everyone else.

Landry doesn't care about LSU. He just wants to be seen as the one in control.

Elections have consequences.
