I truly despise advertisements on the uniforms

I get that sports are trying to figure out how to continuously grow their revenue. But something about it truly irks me (as much as something relatively trivial like sports can).
We’ve had these leagues for basically a century or more at this point in some form or another and as far as I know we’ve basically never had ads on the uniforms until 5 or so years ago.
Ads in the stadiums don’t bother me. I’m not thrilled about it on the field/court but I guess that’s been around at least in hockey for decades now.
Something about the helmets and jerseys just kills me enthusiasm for whatever reason and makes me much more aware that I’m just being sold something. In general I hate advertising trying to get me to buy a product when it’s very in your face so maybe that’s what it is here. Maybe I’m just nostalgic about a “pure” era of sports that never really existed.
But every time I flip on a sporting event and see a completely out of place advertisement on a uniform it just makes me want to turn the game off completely. Now get off my lawn
(I’m 31 FWIW)

I can’t imagine being bothered by this. How do you people go through life constantly butthurt by meaningless things?

Some of us get annoyed having crap shoved/advertised down our throats constantly at every turn.

A company name on a batting helmet is shoving it down your throat?

I’ve never Strauss yet that is somehow shoving it down our throats

I have no say in you being particularly whiny lately.
In fact, I’d prefer you didn’t

Amen. Some things should never have a price tag. It looks so tacky and desperate.

I don't even notice it, tbh.

The small ads in the NBA/MLB don’t really bother me. If we get to the point where it’s like soccer or rugby league and the ads are plastered everywhere, then we got a problem.

Marketing and ads completely taking over every aspect of our daily lives is not meaningless at all. This entire country looks like a fricking billboard at this point. It’s trashy as shite

Yeah, it only annoys me if you can't buy a kids jersey without a sponsor name on it, like with rugby sometimes. Otherwise, I don't really notice or care.

It's amazing how tacky sports have gotten over the past few decades.
There actually was a time when sports were largely viewed like important or honorable or significant or what not. That was probably a naive view but it's how the public largely saw sports and the leagues tried to foster that feeling as well.
Sports have gone all in on being pure entertainment, with all the cheap trappings that entails. A really good example is the NFL draft or the SuperBowl. Those productions look more like rap concerts than anything having to do sports anymore.

A consumer expressing an opinion about a product is also capitalism, genius
