If tweet fails to load, click here. ETA: I love incentive structured contracts. It the way they should be.

Thats nice and all, but this is a free market, and there’s short supply of good coaches. No coach will accept that proposal if another school (Florida, Penn state) is offering 10million a year with no strings attached.

Governor Landry approves

Cute fairytale idea. In reality you get Ed O back cause you're the only school offering that contract and he's who will take it.

Why on earth would you accept as a coach when retard contracts are everywhere else

Zero chance a coach worth a damn would agree to this. Pipe dream

I would love if we could pull something like this off, but I have my doubts. I definitely want to see a shorter contract heavier on performance incentives.

Compared to demand, there is 100% short supply.
LSU, Penn St, Florida, Arkansas and VT all looking for a new head coach.
By the end of the year, we may also have Auburn, Florida State, and Wisconsin looking for a new head coach.
Not to mention whatever schools lose their head coach to the schools listed above

Not as far as I can tell.
Based on everything I can find, it seems Lane’s base salary is $9 million with a maximum $2.6 million in incentive pay.
For reference, Brian Kelly’s base was $9.5 million (average over contract duration) with a maximum $2.6 million in incentive pay.
The contract structures aren’t much different at all, aside from the fact that Kelly’s buyout is 90% of remaining salary while Lane’s buyout is 80% of remaining salary (but with no offsets against future earnings).
Neither are anything like the type of structure Burns is suggesting.

I freaking LOVE this idea. Brilliant!

Who’s the football equivalent of Matt McMahon?
That’s the only type of coach who’d agree to this contract?
I’ll bet Peter Burns isn’t in favor of contracts for TV/radio hosts that pay minimum wage and see bonuses for hitting Nelson ratings targets.
