So is Woodward our main pipeline to the BIG money people?

I’ve got my issues with the guy, but the more I’m seeing seems to indicate this might actually be the case.
Could that, or should that, have a bearing on what we do or don’t do with him?

I think most of the big donors are LSU Football fans, not Woodward fans.
They may like the guy, but they’d still be fans of LSU Football without him

If it’s the case, it should absolutely have a bearing on what decisions are made. Would you want to alienate your largest donors?
I think some simple conversations could clarify if that would be the case, though.

Austin Thomas is great at fundraising as well. Woody isnt the only guy that can do it.
And lets remember that the governor arranged this firing + buyout among the billionaire boosters at the aTm game. Woody was kept out of the loop.
Todd Graves and the one that wanted to be anonymous on this but everyone knows who it is were both at the game...

I'm of the opinion, and I could be wrong, that the wrong AD will turn more people off to giving than the right AD will turn people on. Woodward is good at fundraising, some would say out of necessity because he spends like a drunken sailor.

Austin Thomas is a Woodward guy.
If we hire Lane then I’m not worried, but if we bring in a new AD then Thomas could very well be collateral damage.

Never, ever underestimate the power of great salesmanship. You can have the greatest product in the world, but connections, and relationships are ultra important to the art of separating money from people’s wallets.
Joe Dean royally sucked at it and LSU suffered greatly under his leadership.

Thomas is widely considered the best GM in college football. Hes going nowhere unless poached for a considerable raise.

That’s assuming this process plays out rationally, but yes I would hope that’s the case.

I don't know who it is. Maybe I'm just out of the loop. Care to share a name?

It’s likely that Woodward is the most connected person between business, politics, and athletics in the state of Louisiana.
Yes it should have a huge bearing and it’s 100% foolish to think he’s a throwaway dummy like Alleva.

Your ONLY issue with the guy is that he hired football coaches that haven’t worked out both of which had excellent résumé’s and knowledge of football.

I certainly think there are a lot more considerations at play with these things than there were 10 or even 5 years ago.

Did you forget when OM/Lane poached Thomas from us?

A winning LSU football program as our main pipeline to the big money people.

Don’t speak for me.

Lol no. Big money donors aren't giving millions to LSU just because it's Woodward asking them. I'd bet those guys have access to anyone at the university at any time that they want.

No one is saying that. But here are the facts:
The final 5 years of Joe Alleva, donations to TAF went as followed:
2014- $50,249,636
2015- $50,969,750
2016- $48,063,861
2017- $45,361,183
2018- $43,979,014
The next 4 years under Woodward, excluding 2020-21 for Covid, 2025 isn’t available yet:
2019- $46,875,945
2022- $66,853,005
2023- $67,955,487
2024- $69,287,075

Yeah I’m not saying he’s not a good fundraiser. Also those numbers correlate pretty closely to when he handed out a $100 million contract and hiring the most expensive coordinators is CFB.
