Hired Jimbo, extended O, forced washed up Pelini on him with huge contract, hired Kelly.

That's about as bad a group of decisions as anything Alleva ever did. There's no defending that. FAIL

He hired the DC his national championship winning head coach wanted. That’s hardly a fault on Woodward.

Eh, that was during the COVID craziness and the coach that just had an undefeated season wanted him. I don’t blame woody for that

Hired Jimbo

This was a good hire at the time. Jimbo was a NC winning coach thought to still be in his prime. The 10-year term on the contract was the eye-opening part. The $7.5M/yr also reset the market, but that's what he had to do to pull Jimbo from FSU.

extended O

Extending your head coach after the greatest football season in CFB history after he wins coach-of-the-year isn't a bad decision. No one saw COVID and the BLM situation coming.

Coach O wanted Pelini. Hindsight it was a terrible choice with a high price tag.

hired Kelly

After 5-5 and 6-7, we all thought this was a homerun hire. If Kelly would've gotten in here with the same intensity as he had when he got to ND, he would've been fine.

He hired Sark, who started to revive Washington from the pits of hell. Sark was poached by USC, and then Woodward hired Chris Peterson, who made Washington relevant. People want to shite on Woodward for the hires that didn't work and wrongly blame him for Jimbo's buyout. But the same people forget the good hires. When you are an AD for almost 20 years, you will have some hires that aren't the home run everyone thought.

I 1000% was a proponent of Peking at the time. In hindsight, that was very, very dumb.

extended O,

He had just won a national championship. When has any AD not done this for a coach after winning the whole thing?

He gave over 6 MILLION DOLLARS to a DC O didn’t interview.

You don’t think maybe a “hey how’d the interview go do you think he’d fit?” Might be a reasonable question before you give 6 MILLION GUARANTEED DOLLARS?

If your coach that just won the national championship with one of the best rosters ever assembled said he has his guy, what do you want the AD to do? Had he told Orgeron he couldn’t hire Pelini - and he hires someone else and it doesn’t work out - you all are sky screaming about Woodward micromanaging.

I thought I made it pretty clear.

Ask him how the interview went before signing a defensive coordinator to a 6million+ guaranteed deal.
