I think the ideal candidate is someone that’s young, super high energy and that players would love to play for (like Les and Ed O), hungry and itching to make a name for themselves, and also has a winning track record. And even better if they’re someone who is a good cultural fit here.

Basically, we want someone who is similar to Nick Saban before he got here.

Who out there would be closest to this?

No one knows.

Nobody knew Saban would be Saban when LSU hired him.

A lot of people didn’t like the choice.

This looks like one of those online job postings that asks for crazy qualifications. The only thing missing is a part about only wanting to pay below market rate.

When LSU replaced Nick Saban with Les Miles, Skip Bertman listed his criteria for a new head coach.

Basically: proven capable of recruiting, bonus if they're getting talent as a "second school," like A&M, Okie State, Michigan State, etc. Coach who can punch above their weight and lead to some upset wins over better teams. Discipined, well run program.

This criteria leads you to coaches like Matt Campbell, or Matt Rhule before he went to the Panthers.

Am I right in thinking that I could sign off this board for a month and not miss anything?

Or even someone like Will Wade. Someone who fits that type of bill.

You’re going to miss a lot of tracking planes that aren’t affiliated with LSU

Nick Saban is literally the antithesis of Louisiana culture

nope

the ability to build a program is the #1 metric in the leadership search test... i worked for a executive search firm and it is massive... the turnaround includes so many metrics... like culture, recruiting, so many things in "turning it around..."

and many times, you have to be an expert on one side of the ball... being a CEO is out....

One thing Skip was looking for actually was that the coach had a school-aged children. I remeber hearing him say it on the radio
