Sounds like Charles was not in "alignment"

Does anyone really feel like he was all in on this job as far as work ethic?

I think I know why we've been losing.
Kelly apparently built a roster full of attention needing puppies instead of junkyard dogs.

He didn’t know any players

My honest opinion is that he just isn't a people person. Some people are like that. Sometimes, I won't talk to you unless you approach me and talk to me. Then we can shoot the shite for hours. People think I'm stuck up, that's not it. Sometimes I'm fine jist being with my thoughts and I have to make myself try to engage in conversation out of nowhere.

I’ve managed a ton of people. A personal relationship is absolutely necessary for building culture and team chemistry. In an organization as small as a college football team, this cannot be delegated by the CEO/HC the way it must be in General Electric or Amazon. The HC should know the guy washing the uniforms, and that guy should be telling his family what a great guy the HC is.

This all kind of makes sense considering the Sloan promotion due to Underwood, and keeping the affable-but-incompetent Brad Davis too long. They were the ones actually developing relationships with the players, not Kelly.
It may also explain how Kelly could easily fire his ND DC Brian Vangorder, who stood in Kelly's wedding. It was the right move, cuz Vangorder was Matt-House-level bad, but I'm speaking to the coldness it takes for someone to do it without a fight. Relationships apparently aren't real or strong.

I don’t think people realize how big that is for players, he wanted these guys to do everything they can for him but he couldn’t do the little things

Maybe he can’t relate to people in the south. Maybe this impersonal methodical way of doing business works in the North?

Bingo! He was a New Englander from Boston coaching SEC football at LSU. It was possibly the worst HC fit in college football history.

Fit had nothing to do with it. The mistakes of hiring Matt House and those on field defensive coaches and then promoting Sloan when Denbrock left had everything to do with it.

Seriously, that's your take on Turner's statement?
Posted on 10/28/25 at 6:06 am to VeryReauxna_ish
Yep that was the true failure. BK had a stunningly bad record at hiring coaches.
His first defensive unit was mocked for being so bad and it turned out they sucked. Then everyone questioned Sloan and well he sucked

From too much a players' coach (Orgeron) to too much a CEO. Wild.

How do you know your players if you don’t engage & care for them?
It’s idiotic on his part and even more idiotic we paid him $100mm

That’s fine to have that personality…but that shite ain’t gonna work with 18-22 YO kids needing guidance, coaching and attention.
Literally part of your job as a CFB head coach. What a farce he was.
