The timeline of Sloan getting Offensive Coordinator and the recruitment of Bryce Underwood line up
quote:

January 6, 2024: After being heavily recruited by LSU quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan, Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 overall high school prospect for 2025, commits to LSU.
quote:

January 23, 2024: Following the departure of the previous coordinator, Sloan is promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at LSU.
quote:

November 21, 2024: Amid reports of a strong push and a substantial NIL offer from Michigan, Underwood, a Michigan native, flips his commitment from LSU to the Wolverines.
quote:

October 27, 2025: Joe Sloan is fired from LSU, the day after head coach Brian Kelly is also dismissed. Sloan's promotion was partially credited to landing Underwood's initial commitment, and his subsequent offensive struggles after Underwood's flip were a contributing factor to his dismissal.
quote:

[quote]Woodward wanted Kelly to fire offensive play-caller Joe Sloan, but Kelly pushed for different staff changes that The Athletic said Woodward “wasn't comfortable with.” The athletic director got his way as the program announced Sloan's firing Monday morning.
so basically Sloan got the job for the recruitment of Underwood. Thank you Michigan Wolverines!

That was all pretty well k own, I thought. Sloan should have been shitcanned the day after U derwood signed.

We're likely 1 loss right now if Underwood were starting.

Larry Ellison, more specifically.

I’m so petty that I now avoid using Oracle products at any and every opportunity.

Btw, sure does sound like Woodward made this decision doesn’t it. Guess we can kill that rumor now.

Yep...I still believe that Underwood had no intention of coming here and just committed to us for leverage to get a big bag from Michigan.

It's just absolutely asinine to hire (or retain) a coach based on getting one player. Best case scenario, You're getting one guy who's good for 3 years. And even five stars don't pan out a shockingly high percentage of the time. An incredibly short-sighted move

My understanding is that the “previous coordinator” departed because Kelly was making him co-coordinator with Sloan.

Very stupid as well. If Sloan really was the connection to the kid then give him a job somewhere but don't make him the OC.

So basically Woodward fired Kelly because Kelly would not fire Sloan. Why is Woodward still around?

Real question is why didn’t Kelly fire Sloan after the game on Saturday?

Either he wanted out or he wanted to have a big Dick contest with Woodward

Sounds like coordinators didn’t like working for him. His selection of coordinators was as bad or worse than Ed O’s. At least for Ed, he canned the guys that weren’t working out, that is until he won the championship. After that he didn’t give a flip

Sloane's offense did not lose the game. It scored points but had to change scheme due to 3 quick 2nd half TD's by A&M.

Frig' Woodward. Anybody can spend someone else's money!!

I have colleagues in Michigan who believe Kelly would be a good fit for them… midwestern guy with a link to their QB.
