Could he be Buzzcut 2.0? Yeah, maybe.

But if can’t pull Kiffin or Lanning (lol), I can’t think of a better hire

EDIT: And I love the idea of a reasonable contract for once in Woodwards career

In general, coaches should be paid less in the NIL era until they prove they can compete. That means you have to take more chances in your coaching hires and be comfortable firing coaches who don’t pan out.

Paying buyouts will get old fast, if you don't get your top one or two guys this is the type of hire you need.

+1

I like Sumrall. He's young, but confident with a good sense of humor. He's not a dickhead like Brian Kelly! His teams play tough and he has recruited well at Tulane!

He has likely already developed in-state ties/relationships with HS coaches and NIL managers while at Tulane.

He has SEC ties as well.

Other than his only head coaching experience being mid-major programs, I think he has a TON of potential.

If successful, he's young enough to coach at LSU for a long time and potentially build a dynasty type program.

He would also be very affordable compared to Kiffin or some other power 5 coach.

Would governor Landry really want to piss off Tulane supporters by taking their coach?

That's my only hangup on hiring him.

I don’t think people realize how big of a moment this is for the program. We HAVE to get this hire right, or we are going to tumble down to being an irrelevant program

I’m not risking that on Sumrall

Yeah he's certainly not a tier 1 option.. more like tier 3 or 4.

Hell I prefer a Willie Fritz if we're being honest

After watching the Youtube video of him on "Next Round", I am 100% on the Sumrall train. He is exactly the young energy this program needs.

Jeff Landry isn’t winning NOLA, anyway.
