It would take an epic collapse for Ole Miss to get Kiffin.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but we’d have to wait which is dangerous. But teams like Indiana, GT, Ole Miss reaching the playoffs and getting smacked by teams like Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama, and UGA that have deep high school talent and portal players will be a wake up call for these programs.
I think in five years we will see the recipe to go deep in the playoffs is to bolster through the portal but still pull top-5 high school classes.
So coaches like Brent Key and Lane Kiffin will reach an inflection moment at some point on how badly they really want to hoist a trophy. LSU offers that opportunity, and with less effort required than all other open jobs.

Why on earth could he come here if he can make the playoffs and win a natty at Ole Miss? That's the part I don't get.
He's a god in Oxford. They will build statues of him there. Money isn't a factor. And as a person who's lived in BR and spent a good bit of time in North MS, I can assure you Oxford is a better place to live. Supposedly his family likes it there.

Ole Miss has plenty of funds to match whatever we would throw at Lane. That's why it's not a factor. They won't let him leave over money. That's what I meant, dumbass.

I think as long as they don't win a title, he's available to somebody. It probably gets very hard to pry him out of there if he wins a title this year - as unlikely as that probably is.

1. There's virtually no way OM misses playoffs. They'd have to drop TWO games to South Carolina, Florida, or State. With everybody else in SEC holding serve, there's no way a 2-loss OM makes SECCG (having them drop a 3rd game in Atlanta was the only conceivable way they miss playoffs. That can't really happen now with no upsets these past 2 weeks).
2. LSU waiting this long and then losing out on Lane in public fashion would be far worse than keeping Kelly for another season, no matter what anybody says. OM is likely to be favoured in their first playoff game and probably will host at their grounds. This will delay things even more.
3. Ole Miss is Lane's programme now. He'll have a statue there if he wins a title (and maybe even if he doesn't but continues a run at this current level). A college coach isnt moving to Baton Rouge to see the sights. He's moving to play for championships.

That isn’t going to be as easy as it was 5-10 years ago. NIL was a seismic shift in college football and parity is going to rule the day.
Most everyone with cash can buy a roster and you are gonna see some championships at places you never thought you would.

He can't. Make the playoffs? Yes, Win the Natty? Not happening. Not enough depth.
The season is a grind. He does fantastic with the personnel he has, but he loses against high ranking teams mostly because those teams have more depth and pull away in the second half.
The chances of getting through the playoffs are extremely low when you lack depth.

But the best teams have more depth than the rest. Maybe not as deep as before but still more than most.
The top teams in terms of roster talent will be the ones standing at the end. Those teams have more depth than the 2nd tier teams
