So throw away any pre-conceived notion of a “big splash hire” or even any comparison to the 2021 coaching hire. Not saying that a big name won’t happen. Maybe, but nobody knows for sure. What I do know is Woodward is on his way out, the university currently has no President, and that basically Saturday night Jeff Landry was wheeling and dealing with our big name boosters during the game to oust Kelly.

Simply put, and whether we like it or not is irrelevant, Landry and co. are fully in charge of this coaching hire. Again don’t kill the messenger.

It's unfair to say Landry is guiding the new hire.

He was pivotal is the FIRING, is hands off on the HIRING

He's been on his way out for months. The dominos were always Tate, then BK (if no playoffs), then Scott.

I absolutely have no problem with that and I'll be honest with you as a 64-year-old tiger fan myself. I'm tired of the big name splash hires get me some young up-and-comer. I know you're rolling the dice but hell what after I've gone through the last 3 and 1/2 years of the fan, I'd rather roll the dice and and go with up-and-coming coach like John sumrall or Tulane Brent key of Georgia tech. The coach over at University of South Florida then go what we've done the last 3 and 1/2 years and I have no problem with Scott Woodward not being involved with it and people may not like him but I tell you what. I'm glad Jeff Landry had the balls enough to call out what he did about the ticket prices and get involved. And don't tell me the dude doesn't know that LSU is the big dog in the state of Louisiana

Landry is putting his “guys” in charge of the hire, so he’s one degree away from hiring.

The LSU coach from here on out might as will be considered a political appointee… the governor will be the da facto AD

He got his football coach and had to pay him $50M 4 years later to go away. That alone is almost fireable, if he's here long enough, he better sell his soul for basketball to make the elite 8.

Bingo. A LOT of inflated egos all looking to be "the guy" who makes the LSU hire solely for the clout/publicity they think it brings them. Go back and look at many of the Tennessee coaching searches of the 2010's. They were often complete clusters with "power brokers" and politicians involved...ultimately ending with hires like Dereck Dooley, Butch Jones, and Jeremy Pruitt.

While there was no doubt BK wasn't going to work and had seemingly lost the team/program, LSU is currently a rudderless ship

Given his comments about the contract Woodward gave to Kelly, at least Landry won't commit $100 million dollars to the next coach. I could see a 5-year deal at $5-6 million/year for a coach in his 30s or 40s. Still a shite-ton of money.

I just want a former QB under 50, with a play sheet in his hand capable of hiring a veteran DC.

I’m tired of old retreads being the only options. Do your job and scout a young guy due for a long career.

This has been an off and on thing throughout LSU football history. The Longs and Fast Eddie were all very involved.

Other than Kelly, who else was a “big name splash hire” that you didn’t like?

On a smaller scale Grambling and Southern the same way… the AD and President could be asked to step out the room while the decision is made… their suggestions might be considered, might not… this Louisiana, important decisions mostly never take place through proper channels

Oh his hands will be in the till. Remember, he appoints the board, at his discretion. The board controls the AD. The board will oust Woodward. And I'm sure whoever the next AD is will agree to listen to the board on the new hire, and the board will listen to the governor.
