Great defensive mind
Great eye for talent and player development
National Coach of the Year twice and has been named coach of the year in every conference he was HC in. He's tied for second among active FBS head coaches for the most AP Top-10 finishes.
Not afraid to hire coordinators to meet the teams identity and needs.
Available
Likely not a 100 MIL contract

He was such a great HC. Loved him at TCU.

But yea I think the ship has sailed. For Patterson. He’s been removed from the position for years now.

Yes, yes it is. Gary's wife won't even let him coach anymore, she raised hell about how much time he was spending as an analyst for Texas. He's done.

Also, his personality is eerily similar to Brian Kelly, he's an awful fit culturally.

Hes been in coach as recent as 2024
He was last a HC in 2014

NIL has changed football a bunch but the game isn't drastically different now. Not like spread, RPO, etc has rewritten the game after he left.

Dykes is an interesting thought also but I dont think he has the same grit and D mentality as GP.

The wife is a different story and there is some off filed personality similarities with BK that would be undesirable.

Yeah, man. Bad idea. If I was y’all, I’d want someone cheap who could recruit regional and national transfers well with a sharp offensive mind. Lane, Drinkwitz and Golesh would be my top targets if I were y’all.

I know this OP is trolling, but since we are talking about Patterson, I remember he was one of the names floated as HC after Miles was fired. Well, fast-orward, O gets the job and eventually takes LSU to the title game.

Well, for that title game, ESPN had 3 different broadcasts, with one of them being 4 coaches watching the game live & commenting on each play. I think it was OSU Mike Gundy, Vandy's Derek Mason, BC Jeff Hafley and TCU Gary Patterson.

Gary sounded like the most clueless mf'er of the bunch. He had no idea what LSU was running and other coaches were explaining to him what LSU did. Gary was a dumbass.

And this happened just a couple of years after Gary was being considered for the LSU job. I haven't seen him since, and certainly don't want to now that is almost 10 years after his peak.
