Setting the record straight on Scott Woodward and Todd Graves...

I see people get this wrong a lot...
1. Todd Graves did not graduate from LSU...he went to Georgia. It probably doesn't matter but there are a lot of people that think he is an LSU grad.
2. Scott Woodward was not the AD at Texas A&M when Jimbo received his raise and extension:
I know Woodward catches a lot of heat for the Jimbo buyout, but that was not all on him.

2. Scott Woodward was not the AD at Texas A&M when Jimbo received his raise and extension:
quote:
At Texas A&M, Woodward would need to fire Kevin Sumlin after the 2017 season. He then lured Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State in 2018, paying him $75 million over 10 years. Woodward left for LSU in April 2019. Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M finalized a new contract extension in 2021 that would raise his yearly salary to more than $9 million per year and extend the contract through 2031. Woodward had nothing to do with this extension since he was already at LSU.
I know Woodward catches a lot of heat for the Jimbo buyout, but that was not all on him.

Woodward hired Jimbo and gave him the initial contract

Woodward hired Jimbo and gave him the initial contract

Jimbo buyout was part of the original deal no?

Graves did IN FACT goto LSU!

Yes and if he was still on that initial contract at the time of firing the buyout wouldn't have been as astronomical.
At least when O got his extension he had won a natty. Jimbo had 1 decent covid year and they gave him the moon

Todd Graves did grow up and go to high school in Baton Rouge though. He did grow up an LSU fan and not a UGA fan.

Does Todd Graves boost LSU at all?

No he IN FACT did not.
He's from BR, went to Episcopal. But he graduated from UGA.

The point about Woodward is the fact he is giving out 10 year deals and strapping programs to a coach long term.
That cannot be done in the NIL era. You don't see NFL coaches getting these types of deals.
If you think of boosters that are heavily contributing to rosters in the same light as NFL owners, they want a return on investment. Its too volatile of a market in this day and age with it basically being free agency in the portal every off season.
They need to offer the guy a Tulane like a 7-8 mill 3-4 year deal that is heavily incentive based

We all know graves went to UGA. we also all know he grew up in Baton Rouge, founded his multi billion dollar company in Baton Rouge, lives in baton rouge, and seems to spend a frick ton of his time at LSU events.

No he didn’t. Imagine believing an internet rumor so long you post it as fact.
Posted on 10/26/25 at 8:04 pm to Chicken
So 75000,000 over 10 years was not bad enough for you?

He also was a huge part of setting up LSU's NIL program and getting the $18 million in donations this year.
I'm not sure why Brian is spreading this narrative that Graves. He didn't go to LSU. But, he's a huge financial backer to our athletic program.
