It all comes down to the single lump sum payment.

A) Time value of money says that a lump sum today is worth more than a structured buyout over many payments/years.

B) It allows him to work elsewhere with out a salary offset that is in his contract.

It’s not as much of a stretch as it seems

You can take 25 million and turn it into 50 in 5 years of wise investing while coaching somewhere else making 7-8 million or more on top of that. Of course you take a lump sum. Kelly can get another job unlike O

Bingo. I mentioned A in another thread. B is a major consideration too. He can go coach UCLA for $4 mil a year and keep it all.

Only problem with this is you assume he wants to coach anywhere. Based on his actions and his own words says otherwise. He has said multiple times LSU is his retirement he's going nowhere else but here. When he's done at LSU, his career is done. He has said that multiple times.

I'll add another one in: They have dirt and can fire you for cause but to avoid public embarrassment on both sides you agree to a smaller payout to make both sides happy. Gets swept under the rug. One can dream right?

You’ve got this backwards. The contract almost certainly has language that dictates he has to mitigate by trying to find another job to offset. It’s why guys who have been canned take analyst gigs making a fraction of what they did. If Kelly accepts a lump sum, it’s to NOT have to work.

Can someone find out what realtor group sold Kelly his home? If so, I'm sure we can find the woman and get an even cheaper buyout lol

so what's the dirt if him cheating on his wife is public knowledge? You think LSU has some wild video of him cheating while at the football facility they would threaten to release?

Kelly is damaged goods after this. He’s also on the wrong side of 60.

Someone in media in recent weeks was saying they have dirt on BK but I think it was full of crap otherwise they would've reported it already.

Pretty sure Moscona even mentioned "that person" but he wouldn't name who in typical Moscona fashion.

Wrong. He’ll get another job real soon. Possibly a B10 job.

To avoid litigation, to avoid a prolonged ordeal, to potentially avoid having to take another job to mitigate his losses, to avoid further damage to his reputation. Not that hard to understand.
