Young up and comer - base salary in the bottom half of SEC coaches and fat incentives

We’ll pay you $4-$5 million as a base.
If you make it to the SEC Championship, you get $2.5 million…. if you make it to the playoffs…another $1.5 million.
Each playoff win is $500K and an extra $1 million for the championship.
Chance to make $12 million or so.
5 year deal max.

100% agree with the premise but $1M for winning it all is a joke. Create a real incentive. $10M to be national champion.

You don’t get that coach.
That’s the thing. You aren’t going to get the most proven HC with the at risk pay model but you will find someone extremely driven to be the best who bets on himself.

Also think this is too high of a base if you want to push hard into the at-risk pay model.
I envision for around the $2M base with another $2M for making the playoffs and then $1M triggers for advancing and anywhere for $5-10M for winning it all.

I think his base is too low, but the concept is valid. Make the incentives such that he would outstep any other coach in football by a large margin. More risk for LSU but with greater reward.

That’s the point. You aren’t being cheap. If he is who he says he is, then he makes on level with or far more than his peers. If he does not deliver, he bears more of the responsibility.
