No one will argue that Nick Saban is the greatest modern college coach and potentially the GOAT. But in 2002, following a 10 win season, Bama strolled into Tiger stadium and shut out LSU 31-0. In 2004, GA beat LSU 45-16. Two blowouts like we saw yesterday. I was at that Bama game. Dennis Franchioni came to Tiger stadium and destroyed Nick Saban’s team.

Saban averaged 9 wins per season at LSU. But at Bama his teams performed much better consistently averaging 11 wins per year. His staff at LSU all went in to HC jobs in the SEC and some win National championships so it was not assistants.

I think this points to the behind the scenes culture at LSU that most don’t want to discuss. Saban at Bama was much better than Saban at LSU because the Bama culture and admin are better. Same coach but 2 wins more per season at Bama. This is more than just Kelly.

Whatever. Saban was too busy flirting with the NFL every year. Had he stayed at LSU until he retired, he would have won 5-6 National Championships, maybe more. When coaches like Les Miles and Ed Orgeron can win a NC at LSU, that tells you all you need to know. The fact is, ND fans were right about Kelly. His record was a product of a weak schedule. He’s an average coach at best, in a league with great coaches.

It’s not possible that someone got better at his job the more years he spent at that job?

You’re overthinking it. BK made some incredibly bad decisions that have cost us dearly.

You’re giving no consideration to the impact of continuity on a program. Look at Nick’s numbers his first four years at Bama and compare them too his time at LSU. What LSU generally lacks is the value of longer term coaching stability.

He was 14-0 his second year at Bama and won a National championship. 7-6 his first year while he cleaned out the players. It was a culture issue and the admin supported his changes.

My point is we can change Kelly and should, but we’ll have to pay the next guy a ton of money to come here and figure out how to insulate the program from the external influences.

The Governor is involved…..

Did you see that DEI-infected motley crew of Olga's Cantina characters lined up as the LSU board of supervisors?

I think you can start there
