The Woodward conundrum

On one hand, he has hired Mulkey and Johnson. You have to give him props on those. But those are non revenue sports that don’t move the needle nationally at all.
The two most high profile sports and the sports that drive revenue for the athletic department, football and men’s BB, seem to be in shambles. Factor in the Jimbo debacle at A&M, and it’s hard to trust Woodward to make the next football hire.

Woodward had Absolutely ZERO to do with hiring Jay. That was Skip and Pawls hire.

Are you just guessing or is there actually truth to this

MBB is relatively fixable. McMahon doesn't have a huge buyout. And the expectations are lower since we never have sustained success.
Woodward just needs a young up and comer with a prove-it contract. Which is the wave of the future anyway because you'll have more money for NIL.

Mulkey wanted out of Baylor and called LSU. Mulkey was the instigator. Woody just took advantage.

That's what McMahon was supposed to be and now we're going into another wasted season with this loser because Woodward gave him 3 more years than he needed to.

Johnson wasn’t his first choice. He wanted O’Sullivan.

It's not like a new AD would fire Mulkey and Johnson. Retaining good coaches is a no brainer. Getting it right with the football hire is the most important thing for the athletic department going forward. Woodward has a poor track record and shouldn't be trusted.

quote:lol no it wasn’t. If their was any truth to that then Mike Bianco would be the tigers HC.
That was Skip and Pawls hire.

If this is true, and you have insider knowledge, then with Mulkey courting LSU, not the other way around……SW has done Jack Shite

Kelly was a big name, Jay had already been to a championship, jimbo was a huge name, mulkey fell in his lap. Chris Petersen was already a huge name from Boise. Buzz was a big name in the CBB world.
The one time he tried to find a up and comer on a smaller contract (McMahon) he failed miserably.
He shouldn’t be allowed to hire the next football coach imo.

All the man does is throw money at people - He is not in any way shape or form some kind of guru.

Anyone could have offered Mulkey that kind of money to come home and she would be here. Woman’s basketball also loses money every year and paying her that kind of money.
Johnson was a good hire and LSU baseball history helped Woodward with getting him here. But great job getting it done.

That mother fricker needs to stop giving 10 fricking year long contracts.
Posted on 10/26/25 at 12:57 pm to Allthatfades
I give him props for Jay. He could've fricked that one up but didn't.
Kim literally called and asked. I guess you could frick that up, but it would be inexcusable to do so.
Also, I'm not terribly impressed that he "gets big names" given that he does so by massively overpaying. You could make me AD and I could hire Nick Saban tomorrow... just let me promise him $100M/yr fully guaranteed... does that make me a good AD? Of course not.
