Flynn and Hester give insight to offensive problems

Promoting Sloan to OC was BK’s dumbest coaching move he’s ever had. Completely unqualified from day 1 and it obviously shows. Sloan is a bum.

I'm not a Sloan defender at all but I can't help but wonder what Brad Davis is actually teaching in practice. All of the offensive problems can be traced back to the offensive line and I see one fundamental breakdown after another. I like the way Richard Dickson puts it on the Hannycast. "It's not like I love every play call LSU makes but most of the time, they're calling stuff that should work and fundamentals kill them."


When I watch this offensive line I see...
-Wide hands and loose elbows
-Not finishing their blocks
-Engaging the defender and then letting their feet die
-Bad angles relative to leverage on a given play (taking the outside shoulder on inside zone and taking the inside shoulder on outside zone for example.
-Poor pad level.



We're not not moving people because the plays aren't there to be made. We're not moving people because we play with high pad level, let our feet die and the defender consistently has inside hand placement. That's high school stuff we're doing poorly. Not shockingly, when we do it right, we get movement and move people! Just don't do it consistently.

You're 100% correct but lets not fool ourselves and act like a good chunk of this board wasn't convinced Sloan was the reason for JD5's meteoric rise and were somewhat sold on him being the OC, thinking Denbrock was not the magic sauce the season before.

I agree. And what do you put the odds at that every one of those guys were mis evaluated? All of them were highly recruited by SEC teams. It's pretty clear they just aren't being developed.

It is mindboggling. Vandy wasn't in some exotic look trying to confuse us. They were very basic and Nuss consistently made the incorrect decision. As Flynn pointed out, you hand that ball off against that look every single time. Worst case scenario is Durham is 1 on 1 against a linebacker in the hole. The fact that Nuss is a 5th year senior and the son of an NFL OC makes this even more mindboggling. There are high school QBs that have a better understanding of pre-snap reads than Nuss.

It's time to move on from him. Put in Van Buren so you at least can figure out if he's capable of running your offense next year or if you need to go all in on a portal QB.

Now THIS would be a useful question to BK. Doubt we would get a useful response, but I would be interested.
