If they don’t really have a great case against him they might not want that to be put on blast. Better to play politics, drag it out, give friendly media more room for interpretation/spin.

Sound bites. No substance just a montage of scripted talking points and a blanket refusal to answer real questions. The media will have weeks worth of content and control of the news cycle.
