Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk made an unusual plea at the end of the company's earnings call, urging shareholders to approve his new $1 trillion pay package and claiming, among other things, he wouldn't be comfortable building "a robot army" without control over it.

He doesn't want a trillion dollar pay package. He wants the leverage so someone can't oust him. He already has more money than he can ever spend.

This is strictly so a rogue investor cant kick him out and take control of the organization that controls the robots.

Does the idea that a company has a PE ratio north of 250x seem bat crap crazy to anyone else? TSLA fails to hit earnings targets, price goes up

I have a real problem with the “demand” as an investor

The company is better off reinvesting that kind of money

Tesla has always been this way. Nobody cares. Whoever said Tesla was a meme stock wasn’t far off.

$1.36T - TSLA market cap
$487.5MM - Musk's net worth
13% - Musk's current voting share of TSLA
25% - Musk's "mid-20's" target for voting share

$176.8MM - Musk's net worth currently tied up in TSLA stock (13% of $1.36T)
$310.7MM - Musk's net worth not tied up in TSLA stock
$163.2MM - Cost to buy another 12% of the voting shares of TSLA

I get why he wants a trillion dollars to buy up $163.2MM in TSLA shares, but why does he need a trillion dollars to buy up $163.2MM in TSLA shares?

Hasn’t the argument always been the balance sheet looks better offering him stock incentives that could be potentially worth $100bil is better than paying him a salary that’s just a fraction of that amount?

It will cost him much more than that to buy all of those shares. Buying 12% of the company will cause stock price appreciation as there will be a huge net buyer. He will have to space out the purchases over an extremely long time to not move the stock price significantly. Obviously he doesn’t want to do that.

Unless he’s vastly closer to realizing a robot army than I think he is, he’s got time
