I’ll be making the trip up to Missouri to attempt to bow hunt on some public land in mid November. Has anyone made the trip up there? If so any suggestions would be welcomed.

Mark Twain Forest Halloween week is fun. Jet drive boat ride down a shallow, rocky river to get to the good spots.

I've been going every year for 5 years.

If you're willing to walk a ways it isn't hard to get away from people. Ebikes are everywhere. You'll leave early and walk 2 miles just to have a fat old dude on an ebike who got there 20 minutes later pass you up. I got tired of it and bought one this year.

It still blows my mind that the deer won't hesitate to walk across a bare field at 2 pm up there. I'm normally trying to find the thickest, nastiest stuff on public down here but you don't have to do that up there to see deer.

From what I've seen on the state conservation areas most people up there use the marked hiking trails for access. If you go in along a creek or draw you'll be able to find some spots that nobody really messes with.

Of course none of what I just said really matters because there are no deer up there and hunting pressure from OOSers has ruined it.

I grew up on the Mark Twain National Forest. My dad worked for the US Forest Service and there is some great public land up there. From around Willow Springs to Winona to Bixby and Eminence.

We used to mainly hunt around Shannon County (Eminence) and always had great success.

Do not tell anyone there you are from LA.

They are not a fan of coonasses.

Are pedal bikes common there?

I got one for hunting public here and I am a fan of it.

Im from very close to that area and used to rainbow trout fishing Meramec Springs right there. Some really nice deer in Phelps County area.

If you do go there, you've got to go to Public House Brewery. Good beer and good food. The St James Winery (next door to Public House) has pretty good in house made wine and there's a good burger joint downtown.

Awesome! I’ll definitely check that out.

That applies to numerous other states as well.

Generally, I wouldn’t make out of state trips. My lease is in the process of being clear cut and thinned. So just under half of the lease has had logging activity for the past 5 weeks and looks like it’ll be another 2-3 before they move off of us.

I’d normally hunt Alabama, up near Sylacaiga, Al if I were making an out of state trip. I just decided to try something different and get away from the pines.

Check your dates. Rifle opens on the 15th, I believe. Maybe a different license for archery and rifle.

I have to buy a rifle permit in order to hunt archery. I’ve already spoken to the Dept of Conservation.

The locals around us havent had much exposure to coonasses. They hate the frick out of Florida people.

When I was a young dummy I'd find the newest cutover I could then get in a climber on a tree line and go 25' - 30 ' , killed a bunch that way.

One of the biggest deer ever killed at my old lease was killed on a fresh cutover.

I used a Ditch Bird conversion kit on a Mongoose Malus frame.

I don't think they sell the kits anymore. They are selling a fully built out ebike now. They're located in Port Allen and build an awesome bike.
