Faggie Coaching Model should be our blueprint

Woodward fricked a&m with a horrible contract as well. But they eventually bit the bullet and gave Jimbo the huge buyout so they could start healing immediatly.
They then went and found an up & coming coach (not an established guy that's going to want a 10 yr / $100MM contract) and worked it out to pay him in massive incentives while getting through the Jimbo payout.
There's no reason we can't do the same. No, we're not pulling Lanning from Oregon but if you went after someone like (just as an example) Dillingham from ASU - you do a 3-4 year contract with not crazy money and see where it goes from there.
Doesn't work? Rinse and repeat. No more massive contracts with guys that have been around forever. After you've been a head coach for 10+ years anyone worth a shite is locked up and anyone who is available is available for a reason.

It’s weird how incentives can….you know…incentivize people, versus “here’s a guaranteed pile of 100 million dollars.”

The dreaded coaching carousel..... I have mixed feelings about this. Ask the Gaytors how it's working, they've been in the wilderness for years. Let's see how we finish, but best route may be to force BK to hire top notch OC and stay the course.

Do you want someone with SEC HC experience or just SEC coaching experience? I ask because not many current SEC HCs have successfully navigated the new NIL/Transfer portal era. Kiffen comes to mind, but I don’t think he would take the job at this point

Kiffin would 1000% take the job but I think he'd prefer Florida if it's available.
Kiffin knows he's overachieving at Ole Miss and can't maintain that success forever. He wants one of the Big Boy jobs.

I mean, to be completely fair, there was a nice read up about Graves being worth $17 BILLION. LSU has has just as much donor money available to them as anyone.

He had the No. 1 offense. But he wanted to make sure the current OC stayed on staff solely to sign a player who is Michigan’s starting QB. That ran off the prior OC.
The offensive staff will be fired after this season. That’s a given. But LSU will also lose a lot of players on both sides of the ball. Which means there will need to be significant money to buy new players.
The donors already went deep into the coffers to buy this year’s roster. The ROI has been far below expectations. Do you really think those same people will want to give a lot more money to a HC they have no faith in?
That then sets up a scenario of a new OC…but few great players. Either way, the result on the field is the same.

Some of Woodward’s contracts he’s given out at A&M and LSU have been pretty bad. That said the buyout Jimbo was paid was not of Woodward’s doing. Woodward’s replacement gave Jimbo a new contract after their “great” Covid season.

Agreed. You don’t need to hire a program builder, 50+ yr old, experienced coach anymore. We’re like NFL lite now and have player personnel directors and a staff that handles the financial side. The HC needs to be someone that can hire a competent staff (which Kelly has failed at) and actually wants to develop talent. A younger, smart coach like Kiffen, Lashlee, Lanning etc is the way to go in the new college landscape.

I wish that coaching contracts would become less fully guaranteed and more incentive based without the massive buyouts, but the market isn’t headed that way. And with a season that looks like its going to have quite a few high profile job openings, the in-demand coaches and their agent will have the advantage in negotiations.

Cig’s is a special one. You have a school that has absolutely no business competing for a national title and he has them headed in that direction for the 2nd year now.
Indiana will never, ever get an established coach to come there. Cig for them is like landing Saban. Lock him down by any means necessary.

IMO, Clark Lea makes a lot of sense for us.... has built a solid team basically from the ground up, in the SEC, and would be on the cheaper side, vs. some other bigger name coaches.... what's he been able to accomplish at Vandy in his time there, is impressive
