the study

Poor realists. They don’t live as long, they’re a drain on positive energy, & nobody but negative people likes being around them.

At least they’re alive for a shorter amount of time

Why is OP and the original twitter user conflating negativity with realism? When I think of the "negative" people that I know, they are among the least realistic people that I know. The sky is always falling at the least bit of adversity, and even when there's zero adversity, the sky will fall tomorrow. That's not in the least bit realistic.

Being delusional increases longevity?

That would explain why women live longer

Not all realists are negative. But every negative person fancies themselves a realist.

As if I didn't have enough to be negative about now this just compounds it.

I learned years ago that, if I really want to piss off a negative person who is in the middle of a negativity spiral, I ask them how often their negative prognosis actually comes through, and how often it doesn't

People think that it's "preparing for the worst", but it's not. It's just bullshite negativity paralysis that they use to justify not accomplishing anything.

I stop my wife in her tracks these days when she starts getting down about a hypothetical result to a hypothetical decision before anything happens. I got enough real problems. We don't need to conjure up fictitious ones to stress over.

I remember in 4th grade my teacher told me something like: “If you’re a negative person, you’ll die sooner. You’ll be right more often, but you’ll die sooner.”

She was amazing.
