If a movie genie gave you the choice of any historical event/person to make a 500 million dollar blockbuster with your choice of director, who would you choose?

Id go movie on the life of Alfred the Great maybe climax of battle of Edington. Directed by Sam Mendez(I loved 1917)

I'd like to see a movie about Jean Lafitte, culminating in the Battle of New Orleans

I'd so a historical biopic of Oliver Cromwell. Focusing on his path of destruction and eventual downfall.
How one man gained so much power over the UK and Ireland always amazed me.

Something along the lines of John Adams that HBO did but for Washington or Jefferson. Or one about the Second Continental Congress, maybe through the eyes of one of the lesser-known members.

A Band of Brothers type show but takes place in World War I, Korea, or Vietnam.

I’ve said on here before and I’ll say it again. A movie or series about Joseph Beyrle would be fantastic. His story is fully told in the book “Behind Hitler’s Lines” by Thomas Taylor.

Hernan Cortes and his toppling of the Aztec empire - one of the most compelling events in history. I’ll trust Mel Gibson with it due to his Apocalypto treatment.

A movie based on this book would be good:

There’s a movie about Cromwell starring Richard Harris in the title role (Cromwell - 1970). It’s pretty good but it only covers to the death of Charles I.

The 1938 original, actually directed by deMille, is much better:

The highlight IMHO is a swordfight between Lafitte and the villain in the dungeon of the Cabildo

A feature length movie about Harald Hardrada, aka “the last Viking”, aka “the Thunderbolt of the North”.

Pretty amazing that there have been so few large scale projects dedicated to Washington or Jefferson. Or many of the founders for that matter.

I just find that strange.

I dont feel like the Korean War ever got treated properly.

Massive tank battles, Division size human wave charges. US jets v MIGs. If done right could be huge.

Anything set in Korea or especially Vietnam has to address the war's unpopularity, which gives a totally different vibe than BoB

Why would Hollywood leftists celebrate killing Communists?

in the old days this was for fear of alienating the large British Empire audience

Also, most films on that period (Allegheny Uprising, The Howards of Virginia, Revolution) were very bad

Today, it's b/c slaveowners

The Roman Civil War between Marius and Sulla

It’s a lesser known Roman story but a ton of super famous historical figures are involved or at least alive during it.
