BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - LSU officials and Baton Rouge-area law enforcement provided an update on gameday and campus security during a news conference on Thursday, Oct. 16.
According to the Interim President Matt Lee, the changes include closing off Unity Field during game days for the remainder of the football season and blocking vehicle access to Highland Road without a pass.
He explained that officials believe recent shootings that happened near campus occurred in this area.
LSU will also reportedly crack down on disorderly conduct and firearms on campus. This includes smoking marijuana, and anyone found in violation will be detained if caught.

Dear LSU Family,
The safety and well-being of the LSU community is our number-one priority. At all times, we seek to ensure students, faculty, staff, fans, and visitors have a safe and positive experience when on our campus.
In light of recent events, we write to assure you that we maintain significant resources to ensure public safety. On game day, we typically have 600 trained on-duty police officers representing LSU Police, local law enforcement, and state agencies to safeguard our community. We take full advantage of advanced technologies, including license plate readers, camera networks, and upgraded lighting, which allows for real-time, campus-wide monitoring and rapid response. Our law enforcement presence is fully coordinated. If individuals commit crime on our campus, they will be arrested, and we will work diligently to ensure conviction.
In the coming days, we will continue to review our resources and protocols to maximize the safety of the daily campus experience. As a community, we must also look out for one another. If you see something that doesn’t look right, say something. By standing together and staying alert, we make LSU safer for everyone.
As we enhance our public safety protocols, we will communicate these changes to our constituents, ensuring our full commitment to protect everyone who comes to our campus.
Sincerely, LSU Board of Supervisors Chair Scott Ballard and LSU Interim President Matt Lee

A student organization will face consequences for an unauthorized tailgate associated with the shooting, but no word on which org. Because of them, unity field will be shut down. Historically, that’s where many Black student orgs have tailgated.

Of course it can’t happen this year because it’s too last minute, but I truly think the Black LSU Alumni needs their own tailgate that’s not a Unity Field.
Unity Field was once a great spot but now it’s overcrowd by kids.

I walked down highland from BWW To Unity Field… I just wanted to say segregation is still a thing on that campus but Black Lsu was lit

Had a great time tailgating too. I had no idea we took over Unity Field like that. It was something to see. It look like a HBCU back there.

So I can report every group of black dudes that walk by my tailgate smelling like a Cheech and Chong movie? That's gonna be a lot of arrests.

And just wait until one has a legal med mari card and still gets arrested. I'll believe this when I see it. This is probably more of a deterrent than anything.

This is the way… they need to have a readily available holding cell that can hold a bunch of people. Bring them in.. process the ticket and release after a few hours with a trespass notification for one day..

I am glad the authorities are listening to our pleas and taking action. I am sure some pretty high-ups had the same experience the common fans had this past weekend and are using their influence.
Without exaggerating, I think this will cut down exponentially on the amount of riff-raff on campus. I think the vast majority of the "questionable element" is treating our campus like it is some outdoor festival where they can walk about freely and do as they please. If you crack down on the skunk-weed and make those people uncomfortable and fear they may be caught, they may decide to go elsewhere.

why can't the dopers use these anyway instead of blowing skunk weed all over the place? Just take an edible and be stoned.

They should light up the stadium in George Floyd’s high school alma mater colors again. That would fix all of these issues.

Color me skeptical.
I honestly felt they didn't GAS about anything inside the stadium, much less outside.
I'll believe this "crackdown" when I see it.
