Over the years I've heard stories of some pretty good benefits for travlers that hold AARP cards. I guess you only have to be 18, not 65. Anybody know more about this?

It’s among the same lines as a AAA card.

AMAC is supposedly more conservative, but less traveled.

"The Association for Mature American Citizens (AMAC) and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) have several differences, especially when it comes to their political leanings."

Screw them. They were the biggest liberal lobbyist for Obamacare. Join AMAC.

Nobody I know has one. Too liberal of an organization so they refuse to join. There is another org out there on the conservative end, but I don’t know the name of it.

**Edited to add I see others responded we same and named another group.

Looking at it the only benefit I see is the discount on WalMart+

Doesn't look like much else that I need

WalMart+

I joined this year for the first time to see if it could save me any money. Membership is $15. Walmart+ discount was $40.

There are lots of hotel and travel discounts but they’re not as good as some others I get now.

I don’t read the magazine. I have insurance Im satisfied with.

Doubt I reup.

They do not represent my interests - even though they have claimed that they do.
Would not give them a dime.

I'm in my 30s and I've had an AARP card for about 5 years. It's $12 a year, which is nothing. I use it for the car rental and other travel benefits. Plus it's a good conversation starter for a young person to whip our their AARP card.

And nothing is what I would give those socialists.
Discounts are not a priority, but if they were, there are other ways to get discounts that do not work against my political interests.

I wouldn’t count on AARP for great discounts. They are a stealth Democrat organization.

Just get AAA. It's cheap and fine, and doesn't lobby everyone and their cousin to increase the size of government.

I retired about a year ago and joined AARP because it just seemed like the thing to do. It is only about ten bucks or so per year and you do get a nominal discount (typically 10%) almost everywhere. Honestly, I typically don’t think to ask for the discount unless it is a big-ticket item like a hotel stay, etc. I think my cell phone gives me a discount too, which amounts to a couple of hundred bucks over the year’s time.

As for their political leanings…I am not versed, but the only real thing I have seen them do is lobby to keep social security in place.

Obamacare ring a bell ? We are all still paying for that. Democrats realize the game is up on the rebates from taxpayers and now we will see what the actual costs are

Just throwing this out there in case you have an AMEX Platinum, but you get free Walmart+ with it. Which then gets you a free Paramount or Peacock subscription as well.
