Dan Campbell: Officials said illegal motion call on Jared Goff TD catch came from New York

The trick-play fourth-down touchdown on Detroit’s opening drive in Kansas City violated the rules. There’s an unresolved question regarding how the violation was detected.
The flag wasn’t thrown immediately. From the snap (at which the violation occurred) until the flag was thrown by referee Craig Wrolstad, one minute and 15 seconds elapsed.
Wrolstad said the penalty was called “after discussion.” The circumstances — and the delay — invited speculation that Wrolstad received guidance from the league office as to the situation.
That speculation may be accurate.
Appearing Wednesday morning on 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit, Lions coach Dan Campbell said he was told that New York made the call.
That’s not what Wrolstad told pool reporter Matt Derrick after the game. Wrolstad said the call was made after discussion by the crew, with no assistance from New York.
What’s the truth? Who knows? But the broadcast showed Wrolstad speaking directly to Campbell after the penalty was announced.
In the end, they got it right. But if Campbell’s version is accurate, they did it the wrong way. In violation of clear, indisputable procedures for when the league office may assist the on-field officials.
Coupled with the fact that the final decision benefited the Chiefs — who had zero penalties called against them for the entire game — and it’s time for some to take out the tinfoil hats. Again.

feels like every trick play the Lions run, the NFL just pauses the game until they can find some obscure rule to enforce to cancel it out. Pretty impressive.

The Swifts will go deep in the playoffs again. Maybe back to the SB.

Yet they couldn't pick up the flag on Carl Granderson's roughing call?

I believe Campbell.

Had one called but the Lions declined it. Lions only had 4 called on them.

Yet people love replay review, expedited replay review, an “eye in the sky” with someone correcting officials on the spot and want more of it. All of that decreases transparency and allows the NFL more of a say in getting to a desired outcome that usually helps the business bottom line.

Sure, but call the false starts on the Eagles.
Why can’t New York call that?

Watching the game it was obvious Wrolstad was communicating after the play with someone other than the other officials on the field.
The officials formed a small huddle after the play, and Wrolstad was talking with his head down. The other officials in front of him weren't saying anything and just looking around waiting on him to finish.

Getting corrected calls from NY is such a slippery slope. We only doing that in prime time? Every missed call?
I believe Campbell and there is no way to correct/overturn everything.

Simple people say this without consideration for what happens when someone wants to put their finger on the scale.
When the NFL can choose which plays they "get right" then the "people" aren't getting what they want.

Sad thing is, despite all this manipulation, the NFL is just more boring than previous Decades.
At least when the NBA $$$ STAR officiated they GREW the game with Jordan.
Who's the NFL's future? Target audience? Swifties?

The NFL has made it clear to everyone for the past several years that they are catering the sport to females (Swifties), foreigners (games everywhere) and progressives (field slogans, virtue signaling). It is working so far and good for them!
It is beyond hilarious reading these stories after games. Despite years and years of blatantly rigging games, you still have fans that want to believe.
It isn't hard to quit watching the NFL, and I was a huge fanboy for over 30+ years. Even went to a Super Bowl. I will never step foot in another NFL stadium again and haven't for over 15 years now.
