Two fraternities are returning to LSU’s campus this fall semester after being suspended due to hazing incidents. One of them is back four years earlier than its suspension initially stipulated.
In 2019, LSU found Pi Kappa Phi and Delta Kappa Epsilon responsible for violating the LSU Code of Student Conduct, which led to their suspension. Violations included hazing, coercive behavior and failure to comply with university rules
DKE was to be suspended until May 2029, but LSU permitted an early return this year. The fraternity was well-known, many in Greek circles said at the time of its suspension, for skirting the line with intense hazing and controversial gameday banners..
quote:
Pi Kappa Phi was suspended until May 2023. After completing its suspension, the chapter applied for return through the Interfraternity Council’s expansion process. Pi Kappa Phi’s Chief Marketing Officer Maureen Walker said the chapter is working to ensure students uphold its values in everything they do.

One question is why at least two students appear to have acted as DKE representatives before the fraternity was approved to begin recruiting members. Other questions stem from whether LSU’s recordkeeping on the fraternities’ reintegration don’t entirely match what the university said it would require when the suspensions were put in place.
DKE already trying to get in trouble by hosting an event at a bar
quote:
According to university restrictions placed on the chapter, recruitment, initiation and new member education can only be conducted by DKE professional staff. Brown-McClure said that DKE had no members of its LSU chapter as of Oct. 1.
However, a public DKE LSU account has operated for over a month and posted while run by a student who identified himself to the Reveille. That Instagram account also issued a statement to the Reveille last month regarding the chapter’s return. The student behind the account had previously indicated in messages with the Reveille that he’d been in contact with national DKE representatives and said he and another student had formed an interest group for the chapter.
All but one of the account’s posts have since been deleted, including one depicting the DKE fraternity house.
Additionally, DKE held an event at Murphy’s Bar on Sept. 22.

Has changed in the past four years to the new Biden DEI code of conduct.
They should be ok now other than the whiteness part

If you haven’t had any members in 4 years how does the fraternity come back? There’s no continuation of the culture.

I clearly remember one when Rock Hudson died of AIDS. That was 1985. That was the Deke aesthetic- go to the edge of what is socially acceptable and respectful- and then bull rush all the way to intentionally being insulting and classless and offending everyone with a moral compass for fun. The difference is in 1985 we saw what we would have called “ boorishness “ or “ boys being boys “ as just as part of what comes with free speech. Now it’s not just an unforgivable moral crime, but likely to be met violently or criminally. I think that a very sizeable percentage of undergrads, particularly female progressives, think the penalty for white boy cultural provocation should be violence/burning the house down/putting them on trial.

They start with new founding fathers or founding members. As I understand, the whole point is to discontinue the culture, at least the culture that led to the suspension.

DKE owns their house and the property and had been trying to rent it out to another organization until 12 months ago.
I know it was offered to DTD when they were trying to return.
I.heard the local LSU alumni folks finally made nice with national. One local alums proverbial middle finger to nationals had a lot to do with losing the chapter at LSU. DKE national has the connections to move things quickly for you or against you.

It's just like starting a new chapter at a university that never had one except you have an alumni base here for this one. Your last sentence just might be the reason they waited until all the members were out of school.

When the drinking age is 21 and most LSU students are 18-22 years old, are they only recruiting senior students?
Do these kids just go hang out at Murphy's and not drink, or do they all have fake ID's?
When I was at LSU, 18 was the drinking age.
Could one of you younger guys please explain?

The LSU alumni problem folks finally got out of the way so the LSU folks could make nice with national. Those folks proverbial middle finger to nationals had more to do with losing the chapter than any official at LSU. DKE national has the connections to move things quickly for you or against you.
This is not accurate.

I'll never forget the DKE homecoming display that said
"Two things are on the line with this game. Mike Archers job and Reggie Cobbs nose" with a big black paper mache nose in front of two lines of cocaine (flour dumped in the yard)

They had to let them back early. Can’t think of a better group to “handle” the game day thuggery on that side of campus.
