Anniversary is on a Monday. Should I bother making a reservation if I find one open or is the secondary staff that will be working make the experience less enjoyable?

Downtown area preferable if anyone has a recommendation.

I always make a reservation no matter the night, and any "good" restaurant that is open 7 days a week or Monday-Saturday will have competent staff working.

August
GW Fins
Herbsaint

To name 3...

Yes you should “bother” making a reservation if going to a nice restaurant.

I should have been more clear; I was debating just moving the dinner closer to the weekend and not on my anniversary night.

Thanks for the suggestions in the earlier response. I did check them out online but I'll probably go with Dickie Brennan's based on the NOLA steakhouse thread from earlier this month if I finalize for Monday night.

If you are specifically looking for a Steakhouse Dickie Brennan's would be a few spots down the list, but its certainly not bad at all. Been a long time since I have been there though.

Dickie Brennan's

Went several months ago and was expecting average, but was pleasantly surprised. Food was very good, service was outstanding.

It's been longer since I've been to Chophouse, but enjoyed it also. It is open on Mondays.

But for an anniversary dinner, I'd pick Herbsaint or La Petit Grocery.

It came down between Chophouse and Dickie Brennans and decided to pull the trigger on Dickie Brennans.

Herbsaint will be on our shortlist the next time for a planned dinner in New Orleans. We were interested in a more traditional steakhouse on this run and I have never been to Dickie Brennans.

I personally would choose Mr. John's over Dickie Brennan's. Either way, you won't go wrong. I'd also consider Doris Metropolitian as well.

And while not a steakhouse, Arnaud's serves a delicious filet mignon topped with lump crab meat and sauce. Not sure if filet would be your choice, but it is a very nice restaurant, and I'm almost certain that if your wife wants steak, she would enjoy this.

Had our dinner at Dickie Brennans last night.

Most everything was good; food and service.

We did char broiled oysters as an appetizer. Probably the worst I've ever had in La. The were really small and if you are going to charge $24 for a half dozen you probably should take them off the menu.

There were a couple of other minor issues such as we went with a loaded bake potato to split and they forgot the cheese. They use a white cheddar so I can see how it was overlooked as the color matches the potato. I got the ribeye and wife got the petit filet. I question if the ribeye was ever 16oz precooked. The ribeye was also over salted/ seasoned. Not terrible but it was enough to note. Wife enjoyed the filet.

We really enjoyed the cream spinach as the cream didn't over power the spinach which happens at other places.

We were seated in a half moon bench which I'm not a big fan of. If I had to do it over again I'd probably just hit a high top in the bar.

All in all, it felt like you were getting a Monday service which was my fear when I started the thread. We don't do steakhouses often but can say nothing really stood out to where we feel like we need to go back. I wouldn't steer people away but would not be in my top mentions if someone wanted a recommendation.

ETA: The atmosphere in the restaurant was great; it had a good balance of being intimate for a couple but also a good setting for a business dinner.

Pricey, yes, but not out of line with other places serving them in the city. Oysters are expensive.

I might be in the minority here but I would never choose to go to a steakhouse in New Orleans over the variety of great restaurants the city has to offer. I make better steaks at home for 1/2 the price.

Mingo, please stay off this board.
He gave an honest review of his experience. He did not say anything provocative or inflammatory. He was less than pleased with the experience, and he communicated that clearly. This is exactly the purpose of this board.
Your comment on the other hand is in no way constructive. Kindly GTFO F&D board.

Yes it is. He posts just like Fun Bunch who’s never been to a restaurant he didn’t hate.

I like most restaurants that I go to. I said in this thread that there were better places but Dickie's was fine and recommended The Husky

Try again

Not, it's not. He gave an honest review of the restaurant, and you responded by flaming.

Bunchie gives great reviews on this board most of them positive with good critiques.

The review on Dickie Brennan's isn't really that far off either at least the last time I went there.

Dickie's would be kinda far down the list of steakhouses if I had to go to a steakhouse
