Jamming to STP this morning. Man, what a great band. RIP Scott.

Please share your memories of the band. Favorite album? Did you see them live? When did you first hear them?

Weiland's vocals doing an acoustic version of Plush on Headbanger's Ball was freaking amazing

The diversity in the catalogue is impressive to me. I put them in underrated category. Oh and,

Purple will always be the soundtrack of my first car. Windows down, Pontiac manufacturer stereo cranked to max volume, hearing it now always takes me right back. The DeLeo brothers interview with Rick Beato is if you’re a STP fan like me. They deserve way more credit than they seem to get of the bands from that era.

I recently saw a podcast with them and Billy Corgan.

Corgan actually made the remark that Weiland stole the "And I feel & I feel" riff from Plush from the Pumpkin's song Suffer.

I'm very familiar with both Bands music very well, and this is the stretchiest of stretches I've ever heard, and Corgan should feel ashamed for even bringing it up.

Their MTV Unplugged set was awesome. One of my favorite 90's bands

That song, and that particular version of that song might be my all time #1. Very hard to nail one down but that arrangement/vocal is fricking killer

The Rick Beato interview with Brendan O'Brien has some good insight into STP. It's a great interview on the music business in general.

He produced their first couple of albums, and also produced Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine and many others from that era.

My first concert was Family Values Tour 2001 in Atlanta. STP was the headliner. Scott is probably my favorite rock star of all time and Purple is a top 5 album for me.

RIP Scott

I was a casual fan and I owned Core, Purple, and Tiny Music. I guess the last 10 years or so I’ve become much more of a fan. I regret not being able to see them live while Scott was around.

Along with AIC they are my favorite from the grunge era. The DeLeo brothers are highly underrated as musicians.

I saw that interview as well! And yes, I agree with you. I love Billy but he thinks everyone ripped him off.

Scott was a complete natural as a frontman.

Saw them early in their career in '93 at State Palace, then again a few years later at UNO.

Favorite song, Still Remains.

Love the bass line on Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart.

I disagree, anyone who follows music knows what amazing songwriters the DeLeo brothers are.

Kretz was always the weak link. He had good drum parts but very simple. He was definitely the least talented of the 4. Any drummer could play pretty much any STP song after the 1st listen.

Not to dog him but he did play simple parts.

Friend of mine played Atlanta on a jukebox in a dive bar probably like 10 years ago.

I think Purple is one of the greatest albums ever produced. If you look at any list of the top 100 albums of just the 90s it's hardly ever mentioned. Completely underrated and underappreciated band. For me STP and AiC are interchangeable as the best bands of the 90s.

For someone who really didn't do that era of music, I think Scott Weiland was an amazing vocalist. No idea about what some of the lyrics meant ("dogs began to smell her") but he sounded great.

It honestly disappoints me how the biggest/most talked about grunge bands were always Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Stone Temple Pilots should very much be included with them and outside of Alice in Chains to me they were by far the best band of the group.

Scott Weiland was an amazing vocalist/frontman and should be talked about with some of the best.

Their first 3 albums of Core, Purple, and Tiny Music...Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop might be the best 3 album start of a band's career of all time.

Their Unplugged performance was unforgettable too,

I was obviously upset when Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, and Chester Bennington passed, but Scott Weiland passing was just as tragic to me IMO. Man made a huge impact on STP and music in general.

that song was about a missing person that was later found dead.
so that line is in reference to search dogs picking up the scent of a corpse

I think it's because STP wasn't a Seattle based group, which should have had nothing to do with recognizing them as great musicians.
