What are the nicer public courses in your area?

Here around Greensboro, NC
We have a ton of course, about 30, in the area. Great area for golfers. And yeah, I feel fortunate to have all these nice courses around me. With Pinehurst an hour and half away. Myrtle Beach golf (100 courses) 3 hours away. Charlotte and Raleigh golf a little over an hour away. This is a great area for golf.
Here are the public/semi-private courses I would say are higher tier for our immediate area.
Hit me up if anyone wants to play. Always looking for new people to play with.
Bryan Park
The Cardinal
Greensboro National
Grandover
Chapel Ridge (about an hour away)
Mill Creek
Tot Hill Farm
Oak Valley
Sapona Ridge
Stoney Creek
Pilot Knob

Golf is Shreveport/Bossier City is terrible. The only ones worth a dime are Stonebridge Golf Club-Semi-Private, Querbes and Huntington which are municipal courses and that's about it, not much to choose from.

Trails End Arcadia LA.
North La golf sucks but it’s a tough track with hardly a flat lie. Greens tend to be slow and it’s a bitch to walk
*picture is of #2. 500ish yard par 5 with the green on the side of a hill with pond below and cutting across the fairway at about 350yds. Anything right of the cart path is in a gulley 30ft below the fairway.

I started walking courses about a year ago. Never really thought about walking much, but I learned I enjoy walking much more than riding.
Really depends on the course. Some courses are not meant to walk...
Goodyear Golf Club near Danville, VA is one. Played there many times riding over the years. We walked it for the first time earlier this year, not thinking about how hilly and steep it is. Even the guys in the clubhouse were like, "You sure??"... Plus it was 94 and humid as hell. That was a rough golf day.

I may or may not have a Taylormade driver hanging in a tree off to the right of that Tee Box...

Links on the Bayou & Oakwing in Alexandria. No pictures from The Reservation in Pineville? I guess LSUA’s course is closed, so that’s why you didn’t include it.

I live in the Birmingham area so there is a lot of good public courses
Robert Trent jones courses are all good. I played oxmoor valley this past weekend and it was superb. Greens in great shape and very fast

Oak mountain state park course was decent last I played
If you want to drive an hour and hit up Farm Links that place is incredible. Just out in the middle of bfe
Private courses in bham are all pretty damn good too but like everywhere they are serious $$$

I'm not sophisticated enough to post pics, but our AW Tillinghast course, Swope Memorial is being re-done with a 10M influx of cash. Can't wait for it to re-open. Built around 1930's - it's fantastic and should re-open around summer '26. If anyone is ever in the KC area for public golf, it's my suggestion.

Baton Rouge public golf does suck, but given that Houston is the 4th largest city in the world, the public course options here aren’t great. We also don’t have much in the way of terrain to work with unless you are adjacent to a bayou or on an old landfill…lol. I guess I’d put memorial park at the top and then I can’t even think of anything that’s noteworthy or picture worthy.

Yeah, Tot Hill Farm, one of the courses I linked is up to $170. A bit overpriced, but a really cool and unique golf course. And is usually is phenomenal shape. Most courses around here are in the $55 to $80 range if walking on Saturday. And that's usually only allowed in the afternoon.
Most courses require carts in the mornings. Which I think is dumb. Walkers aren't slow golfers.

Man, I live in the Woodlands and seems like you can't drive down a road around here that's not lined with a golf course. I think there are 7 courses within the boundaries of the Woodlands itself. All private. Public courses around me always seem to be packed if reasonably priced. I know Houston in general offers more with a little bit of a drive, but if I want to get to a point of playing once or twice a week, I'm going to have to end up joining somewhere.
