So I think they ref told Beamer it was because he had the play stopped and then when the ref moved out of the way the punter immediately snapped it

I think the ref was aurguing the punter should have waited just a little bit longer (maybe waiting on a whistle to start the play?)

Either way on the replay, it didn't look like a good call, in my personal opinion. I feel like we got away with one

They did not explain much on the TV broadcast. I still don’t know the answer.

They got screwed on that. Ref shouldn’t have flagged that after he backed out of the way after tge time given to sub

Were there 7 men on the line of scrimmage? I only counted 6 on the replay.

USCe has a legit gripe that refs are against them. Didn’t something questionable happen in our game with them last year?

Definitely bad mechanics by the referee. He stopped the action by moving in front of the punter with his arms spread (proper mechanics). Then he moved out of the punters line of site but with his arms still out. The punter, like any reasonable human, took that as the ok to snap the ball. The referee should have stayed in the punter’s line of site.

This is what happened. I don't know if the ref was supposed to blow the whistle or give him some kind of visual or audible signal that they could snap the ball, but he didn't and the punter assumed that when he stepped behind him he could snap the ball. Clearly the ref told Beamer that and Beamer knew it was the rule, or whatever, because he didn't really even argue.

They were blowing whistles as the ball was snapped and our players were immediately pulling up because of the play being called dead. I am not sure they convert that anyway.

But, it didn't seem like the punter did anything wrong to me. The ref have moved away from him so not sure why he couldn't snap the ball.

People assume they would have converted but I’m not so sure. It’s pretty easy to convert when the defense all stops trying cause the play was dead.

They ran a player on the field late. Therefore they have to give LSU time to replace a player if they want. Head ref screwed the pooch on implementing the delay.

Because they couldn't figure it out either. Like someone just wrote in another post, we got away with one.

I think Beamer had a legit gripe with the ref in that one.

Nothing there. Phantom BS call to take away SC first down.

All the comments saying USC got hosed by bad refereeing on the play are correct (although it'snot clear that thry would have made the 1st down in any event). In addition, the USC player calling the snap was the protection back, not the punter. Referee should have been up with him until he was cleared to start the play.

It may have saved them from themselves. We had the play relatively well covered but the refs blew several whistles as the ball was hiked so our players kind of stopped playing.

Think there’s a good chance we stop it and have great field position. Everyone acting like it was a for sure first down is wrong in my opinion.

I wonder though if our D would have actually stopped the conversion had the weirdness not occurred. It looked as though we sort of pulled back or paused knowing the play was dead. I didn’t rewatch though.

Ie this. Lol. Just read post above mine.

Tv said there was a substitution and the ref stepped in to hold play until LSU had a chance to sub. But the ref stepped to the side instead of staying in front and USC snapped the ball on the fake punt. The ref blew the whistle to stop play because he never signaled to start. Kind of complicated and Beamer went berserk.
