Was waiting on RonSwanson to start this again but let's get this party started after seeing a dusting of snow at Crystal Mountain WA this morning
. Looks like a slight La Nina/ENSO neutral winter for this coming season. PNW, Idaho, MT, WY appear to have a slight edge to a snowier winter but anything can happen with the weather patterns. We'll let our resident meteorologists chime in here for their input
Where's everyone headed to this winter? I think I'm going to take fewer, but longer trips this winter to limit the amount of travel required. Ikon Base pass for me.
Trips booked so far:
Alyeska AK 12/17-12/21
Crystal/Alpental/Snoqualmie WA 1/21-1/25
Likely heading to CO at some point to ski with one of our resident posters

Looking at Park City (never been there) in mid-March.

Going to be a big year for me, full Ikon again with a few EPIC days on the side.
Probably doing 4 or 5 trips starting with Colorado the week before Christmas, Steamboat in late January, SLC/Jackson last week of February and Aspen in Mid-March. Won't be staying in Aspen, likely slumming it in Glenwood Springs but got a super cheap flight into ASE so wanted to make something work since I haven't skied there in a while.

Sounds like a bunch of good trips planned.
I usually stay in Basalt. Have stayed here several times and it's an easy drive to the Brush Creek Park n Ride every day. Free breakfast, free parking, plus Basalt itself has a few good restaurants.

If you’re a skier, consider a day in Deer Valley. It’s very nice.
Big Sky in February and Breckenridge in March are my current plans.

I have a family member that struggles with elevation due to a health issue. Any recs on ski resorts with a lower base elevation that might have good conditions late dec/early jan? Something maybe below 5-6,000 ft? I’ve only been to resorts with higher elevations.
That family member would not be skiing so all that really matters is base elevation.

Sorry to hear about elevation issues.
Given the anticipated la Nina, PNW supposed to get hammered. I'd lean WA, ID, or OR for early season this year, although Alyeska Alaska is like 100' base elevation and 45 minutes from Anchorage.
Will the family member just be staying at the base while everyone else skis or are you looking for a 'town' with things to do?
Crystal WA doesn't have a town at the base, just skiing. Same with Snoqualmie, Mt Baker, and Stevens Pass. More of a commute for a day trip, might be able to have the family member go into Seattle or surrounding area for things to do?
Schweitzer ID has a base elevation of 3960' with a few spots to stay
If you need a town with things to do, maybe Bend OR and go ski at Mt Bachelor? Cool to ski on a volcano. Bend elevation 3624'
Was going to suggest Jackson WY but elevation is 6300'

Ideally there would be an area with some shops, cafes, etc., but not a deal breaker.
Really just looking for a place where some extended family can go skiing with us….if there isn’t anything else to do the family member with the issues could just watch movies at the house or something.
He was evacuated from summit county last year by ambulance and spent a week in the hospital in Denver. Seemed to be ok at 5,000 feet but not at 9,000+.

I think I'd try for bend OR then. The town itself has a lot to do (last blockbuster in the US, great bars and breweries, nice easy to walk downtown). You can fly into Redmond OR and it's a quick drive to Bend. Mt bachelor is a 30 min drive from town and it's a fun mountain to explore (tons of trees). The only thing you need to keep an eye on is the storm pattern and hope for early season snow. Next few weeks look good for PNW to start their snowpack. I went early Feb last year and that was the best snow I had all season at any resort.
Hopefully someone else on here has other suggestions

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll be attending a conference if I go, so I’ll be staying at Park City and dealing with the crowds unfortunately. I’m jealous of you going to Big Sky. Out of all of the places I’ve been, big Sky is my favorite.

Breck in early January. Keystone in February. Got the summit county pass. So might try another trip to one of those if I can find time and a flight deal.

I think it's in the bylaws to not have a snowboarder start this 2 years in a row

but let's get this party started
A lot of moisture here in Utah the last couple weeks, and it looks to continue. I am hoping this is a good sign for the season.
Snowbasin today and the mountain by my house last week.
I'll be teaching at Snowbasin this year and I'll have a season pass. Got 5 day pass at Snowbird as well. That will probably be it for me, but I'm stoked for the season. Counting down the days...

Banff is 4500, Whistler is 2200. Agree with Cuse in regards to Bend for US options. Sun Valley is also just below 6k.

Two trips planned and booked already, waiting a bit to book something in April.
So far, Park City Jan 19-24 (Sundance) and again Feb 14-21 for Mardi Gras. I am interested to see what PC does during Mardi Gras with the winter olympics going on. Hoping for some cool watch parties.

You going to Sundance resort? I drove over there for the first time this fall. That place is ridiculously beautiful.

quote:gotcha, if that’s the case, and you are skiing PCMR, get on the mountain early and head to the backside of the resort, fewer skiers there usually

Heading up to Killington with some friends mid January. Looking forward to it.

Looking forward to a great season.
Aspen: Dec. 9-14 (with my 9 year old son)
Vail: Jan 25-30 (solo)
Deer Valley: Jan 31-Feb 7 (entire family)
Big Sky: Feb 27-Mar 4 (with my 9 year old daughter)
Will be my first time to Vail and Big Sky, so looking forward to checking out somewhere new. Always love Aspen, and went to Deer Valley for the first time last year and loved it.
Thinking of adding in a short family trip over New Years to either Bachelor or Schwitzer...any recommendations between the two for that time of year?
