Misophonia - who here has it? Who doesn't know what it is?

Misophonia is a condition in which specific sounds trigger intense negative emotional reactions, such as anger, annoyance, or disgust. These reactions are often disproportionate to the actual intensity of the sound.
Since I was a kid snoring bothered me to the point I couldn't fall asleep if I was in the same room with someone snoring and I wanted to smother them with their pillow. And people chewing with their mouth open instantly angered me as well. I thought that one made sense as my dad would smack us upside the head if you were smacking your lips at the dinner table
Through the years, a few other things got to me like this where I would get immediately angry like hearing dogs barking, coughing/sneezing, a baby crying on a plane, etc.
I didn't understand it until about 10 years ago when I first heard of Misophonia. It really started making sense and actually helped calm down my anger. I knew either to not put myself in those situations or where I could simply not listen to it (noise canceling headphones on a plane were a game-changer). It's a terrible condition. Many people don't know what it is or really don't believe it and just think you get angry for no reason. I have gotten a lot better since 'self-diagnosing" and understanding it's an issue a lot of people deal with. It's not officially classified as a disorder which is frustrating.
What noises bother you to the point of anger?

The sound of a blue haired liberal white females voice.

Time Life Books tells the story of a cowboy who shot a man for snoring.

I probably have it because if I were to hear the sound of my ex-wife's voice I would become irrationally agitated.

I dont know if this is real. I haven't looked it up but a coworker claims he cant visualize stuff. If he is reading a book he just understands what happens but he cant see it in his mind.
He sounds like a psycho

The sound of a clock ticking makes me beyond irritated, to the point that I will take out the batteries... and yes, ive done it at friend's houses

Oh it’s real. I know someone with it. It’s called aphantasia. Sounds like a Disney character.

The sound of someone slurping a drink. Disgusts me. There's a Dasani commercial on the radio where they exaggerate someone drinking out of the water bottle. Drives me nuts.

My son has issues like this with hearing… we’ve bought him several different strengths of Loops to deal with it. Don’t know why he is that way, the rest of us aren’t really.

Same.
When I first moved to L.A. in the late 90's there was Carl's Jr commercials that came on all the fricking time and they amplified the lips smacking, chewing, sloppiness of eating their food. I boycotted them and have never eaten at Carls since then

Hopefully this is something that doesn't continue. I'm telling you, it is terrible. Pure anger and it affects other parts of your life. I'm so much better now with it by understanding it. There's a movie called "Quiet Please" that you should watch if your son does indeed develop this condition. I had my wife watch it and it changed her opinion of it and she's so much more accommodating about things.

I’m pretty sure this is how everyone feels about snoring.

I dated a girl with this- an absolute 10 bombshell with severe misophonia . The hottest woman I’ve ever had an ongoing relationship with. The misophonia for example- my urine stream drove her insane and she had to make the food and get me my ice/ drink. She had a noise rule for everything and had been fired from jobs. Oddly, sex noises were ok. About a month in I realized the only reason I had access to this smoke show dime piece was because nobody could tolerate her for long and it was just my turn. She was a nice enough gal- extremely intelligent and charming and professional-she just sabotaged herself with the misophonia. Holy shite was she a stunna. I might give one of you baws her phone number for the right price, lol.

I definitely have Misophonia.
When my wife goes into petulant child mode it makes me absolutely lose my shite.
